The Church of England bishop has delivered a provocative Christmas message by claiming that far from being the bearers of gifts to the infant Jesus, the Three Wise Men were part of an assassination plot. The Bishop of Lichfield, the Rt Rev Keith Sutton, also poured scorn on the "sentimental" and 'false' images in nativity plays and Christmas cards which portrayed the shepherds, who were on 'the fringes of society', as lovable characters, according to Britain's Daily Telegraph newspaper.

Bishop Sutton said that Mary and Joseph were forced to flee 'as refugees seeking asylum in Egypt' and the wise men were 'on a mission of Herald to discover the whereabouts of the baby Jesus so that he could be killed', said the newspaper.

Ridiculing the 'superficial sentimental Christmas of the pop songs', the Bishop asked: "how many of us really feal like that at Christmas?"

"If we are brutally honest, Christmas is probably a real chore, it is the most painful time of the year. Urging people to think of the lonely, he said: "For love to be real, it is not the thought that count's but what you do about it. The Bishop is a strong believer in the physical resurrection of Christ.

The Rev Lee Rayfield a fellow British clergyman made the Children in the congregation cry, telling them Santa's reindeers was a myth. Said that Santa's reindeers wound burn up if they reached the speeds necessary to deliver so many gifts all over the world.

TIP-OFFS REWARDED.

$ NZ1600 to dub in drink-drivers. British anti-crime group has offered up to $1600 to anyone reporting a driver operating a car while intoxicated. Crime stoppers said it would keep tip-offs confidential and pass them along to the police, and then pay rewards if the authorities apprehended a drunk driver.

CITY leaders in Los Angeles have a message for motorists caught soliciting prostitutes: police will seize and sell your car. The plan is for female police officers to pose as prostitutes and tape solicitations before making arrests. Male and lesbian prostitutes are off the hook.

The Christchurch NZ police could set up a sting operation from outside the offices of Hill-Lee & Scott Attorneys, down to the Catholic church near Bealey Ave. They could use the policewoman, who at one stage was captain of the Canterbury Cricket team.
