Corporations get patriotic

We've all seen the commercials. Some hack salesman making patriotic noise in front of a rippling flag and march music. From Ford trucks to NBC to exercise equipment it seems everyone's getting in on this patriotic scam. Of course it isn't only commercials hopping on the nationalism train. Military contractors are celebrating the biggest military contract in history. In fact CSPAN showed the whole dramatic contract-bidding event with champagne and laughing bald roly-poly white men (no doubt celebrating the great country they live in and not the bus-fulls of money they're making).

This is without question a manipulative sales tactic but it goes deeper then that. These corporations that pretend to be interested in the safety and welfare of the American people are really just trying to suck more money out of a tragedy. They're parasitic slime, but that's the nature of business. However if corporations did truly care about "making our economy go again" or "making this country strong" would they be laying off millions of workers even though they're being receiving enormous amounts of corporate welfare from the government?

People are falling for their patriotic façade and getting burned for it. After the S11 tragedy when the small time investors on Wall Street called for a "patriotic rally" of stocks they were sadly disapointed when the major players unloaded what they could and ran. In one analysts words "everyone [who matters] is betting against America". This shows the heartless extent that capitalists are willing to go to in order to make money and manipulate the American public. They're playing both sides and treating us like we're stupid. Not only that but they're happily sacraficing thousands of innocent civilians to the war machine and state violence.

These greedy corporations are very obviously benifitting and rejoicing from the despair and death of both terrorist and war victims. But this is no anomaly, corporations are just following their nature which dictates they should pursue profit at all cost, even human cost. This is the law of capitalism, and the reason why business thinks it's okay to kill people and the environment just to make a little money (okay a lot of money).

They lay us off while telling us we have to sacrafice for the "countries" sake (as if they weren't laying us off even when they were raking in record profits), they whip up war fever with their lobbies and statements and then profit off the blood spilt. They make money to fatten themselves up and send us to die in some silly war. As Plato said two thousand years ago "all wars are fought in pursuit of wealth" but it's innocent people on both sides who die for the sake of their leaders glory and power. We gain nothing from war! Don't let the propaganda fool you, it's people just like us in the machine gun sights, these corporations are not our friends.
