Santa Rosa Goes To The Streets Against War

by Bursts O'Goodness
The over 3,000 marchers took Mendocino Avenue in Santa Rosa, on Sunday, while marching against war from the Junior College. Sonoma County a hotbed of Radicalism? Teach-ins & such!
On Sunday, Santa Rosa hosted colorful, inclusive anti-war march and rally.
The Press Democrat estimates that around 3,000 protestors left the Junior College and travelled down Mendocino Avenue, or joined along the way, as the march left the sidewalk and took one of the major streets in Santa Rosa's business district.
The march and rally were sponsored by , among others, the Sonoma County Peace & Justice Center, the Youth Coalition Against the War, Raging Grannies, Student Activist League of Sonoma, and Students Against the War.
The Youth Coalition Against The War is calling for a student walkout in Santa Rosa and around Sonoma County upon news of war declaration in Iraq.
The coming weeks will be a busy time for organizing in Sonoma County. Sonoma State U's Political Science department is sponsoring a debate on the War in Iraq on the 19th of November. There is a Student Walk-out scheduled at SSU on 11/20 at 11:40 am, to be welcomed outside by a rally and information on the war. On the 22nd the Faculty at SSU will present a teach-in with such speakers as Starhawk and Karen Talbert. On that Saturday, the 23rd, SSU students will offer a free day of teach-ins, with at least twelve workshops running concurrently in five places. Food, music, sexy-activists!
