Let's call a PG&E ratepayer strike!

by anon
Since both attempts at public power through elections were stopped by PG&E - the first time by literally throwing votes in the bay - let's shift to direct action: organize a citywide ratepayer strike, together with a reconnection committee to keep the power on.
SPREAD THE WORD:
LET'S ORGANIZE A RATEPAYER STIKE AGAINST PG&E!!!

Since both attempts at public power through elections were stopped by PG&E - the first time by literally throwing votes in the bay - let's shift our strategy from failed electoral politics to direct action: organize a citywide ratepayer strike, together with a reconnection committee to keep the electricity flowing.

If not us, who?
If not now, when???

Energy is the core of the fascist Bush/Republican regime that has taken the reigns of the national government through stolen elections and political assissinations. By organizing a ratepayer strike against PG&E, we can take our future into our own hands!

It's good to see a posting like this on IndyMedia, because I've been thinking the same thing for a while. When PG&E raised rates a few years back to cover for their poor management, I went about 6 months without paying the difference.

During that time, I told anyone who'd listen that we need to get thousands of billpayers to refuse the rate increase to make a difference.

It makes sense to me to just not pay the bill period. Again, it'd take most of the city residents to protest this and effectively "shut down" PG&E. A HUGE task, but maybe possible if done right.

As for shutting down our power, PG&E would have a PR nightmare if they had to shut down power to the elderly and disabled. It'd be bad enough if thousands of San Franciscans did without power.
