100,000 March for Peace in SF on 10/26/02

by Peacenik
At least 100,000 marched in San Francisco for peace on October 26. This is both my estimate and Larry Bensky's estimate on KPFA, so that's two of us. We marched shoulder to shoulder the width of Market Street and people were leaving the foot of Market as we arrived at the Civic Center. It took hours for the peace demonstration to completely arrive at the Civic Center, about a mile from the foot of Market.

For the first time in my 50-plus years of marching for peace in my hometown of San Francisco, including but not limited to Ban the Bomb marches and peace in Korea marches during the Fascist Fifties, the Vietnam War peace marches and the anti-Persian Gulf Massacre peace marches, we were SURROUNDED BY THE DEMOCRATIC PARTY POLICE AT THE CIVIC CENTER.

Democratic Gov Gray Davis had the Democratic Party's state police, some 25 on each side of the old state office building at 455 Golden Gate/350 McAllister at the entrances, which borders one side of the Civic Center.

Democrat Gray Davis had a state cop sniper, supposedly just armed with a camera, which is a sufficiently outrageous waste of our tax dollars and contempt for us, on top of the state court building at 400 McAllister, on the small rotunda on the roof, facing the Civic Center.

Democratic "mayor" Willie Brown had the San Francisco Democratic Party's police on the second floor balcony overlooking the Civic Center.

It was also reported that the Democratic Party of San Francisco had armed police on the second floor of the Civic Center Auditorium facing the Civic Center.

This level of fascist terrorism presence at this very peaceful peace picnic, which terrorism was perpetrated by the capitalist party, the Democratic Party, just as fascist as the Republican Party, is a new low in contempt for the taxpayers and was an example for all to see as to why we must never, ever vote for any Democrats or Republicans.

From the stage, hopefully for the last time, we had to listen to Democratic Party politicians claiming to be for peace, when they belong to a warmongering party and when they all support the entire Democratic Party ticket. Hopefully, also for the last time, our peace organizations will never again ask for any progressive resolution, whether it be a peace resolution or one supporting a political prisoner, from the Democratic Party's Board of Supervisors of San Francisco.

In particular, we had to hear from State Senator John Burton , Rep. Barbara Lee, and Supervisor Mark Leno, all of whom proudly support Willie Brown, the fascist illegal "mayor" of san Francisco, Al Gore, Gray Davis, Dianne Feinstein, Barbara Boxer and ALL THE REST OF THE DEMOCRATIC PARTY TICKET.

Supervisor Mark Leno, against his own party which opposes Prop N, supports the anti-homeless Proposition N and claims to be "neutral" which is in effect support, of the repeal of rent control, Prop. R. Someone apparently ran to him for an anti-war resolution, which of course, being the opportunist Democrat that he is, presented it to the Board of Supervisors and had it passed 9 to 2 (2 Democrats opposed the peace resolution).

We also had to hear praise of the recently assassinated Paul Wellstone, whose death was terrible and tragic, but he was not a progressive. Paul Wellstone voted for the Fascist "Patriot" Act of 10/26/01, which we demonstrated against TODAY. He has also voted for an anti-immigrant bill, for bombing Iraq in 1998, against gay marriage, for a resolution praising Israel's Ariel Sharon and for a resolution condemning the 9th Circuit's good decision tossing the illegal pledge of allegiance which violated the Constitutionally-mandated separation of church and state.

THE DEMOCRATIC PARTY'S GAME is to give a few progressive votes and mouth a few progressive phrases so you vote for them in every election, so they can carry out the same reactionary agenda as the Republican Party because the DEMOCRATIC PARTY IS A CAPITALIST PARTY THE SAME AS THE REPUBLICAN PARTY.

YOU MUST LOOK AT THE ENTIRE VOTING RECORD OF ANY GIVEN CANDIDATE. You will find Barbara Lee, John Burton, Mark Leno and Paul Wellstone are or were just good Democrats, usually voting the same as the Republicans.

The DEMOCRACTIC PARTY SHOWED THEIR CONTEMPT FOR OUR PEACE MARCH WITH THEIR RIDICULOUS AND CONTEMPTUOUS POLICE PRESENCE. We were a crowd of peaceful people of all ages and colors including babies and old people, who, at the Civic Center, enjoyed food, conversation and browsing the literature table. That was how it was advertised and that is what materialized. The police presence MUST BE A REMINDER TO NEVER VOTE FOR ANY DEMOCRATIC OR REPUBLICAN PARTY CANDIDATE AT ANY LEVEL OF GOVERNMENT.

We need a million people at the next peace march and we need a general strike for peace if Bush invades Iraq.

What a joke -- 100,000 unwashed, uninformed losers marching in San Francisco? I don't think so. Maybe 1,000 losers, but not 100,000 losers.

One thing in your rant that I do agree with: Don't vote for the Democrats. Oh please no! Vote for Ralph Nader and the dorky Greens. That's perfect. Thank you for stepping aside on the elections.
by Sheepdog
They are usually spewing their garbage
at each other on Bravenet. THAT'S where
the unwashed losers are. Talk about
morons. Transparent boneheads filled
with the same shit. Reads like a cage
of lice infested monkeys jumping around
picking their ass then their nose.
At them I laugh (in fear, of course) Ha.

Sheepdog -- You have fleas, don't you?

Your last post was humiliating (for you).

Get on board with the good guys. That would be the Republicans. It's not too late to salvage your sorry ass.

That guy has been posting constantly on Portland Indymedia for over a month. Any time someone confronts him with cold hard facts, showing particular lies (violation of international law, the true history of weapons of mass destruction and the fine information REPUBLICANs like Scott Ritter have been talking about, etc.), all he does is respond with more messages about "smelly hippies," etc., just as he's now posting over here, talking about gays in San Francisco and the like -- anything, but not facts. Not the fact that people all across America were messaging to congress people in an average ratio of 25-to-1 against the war (and in some cases, the ratio was more like 100 against for every person expressing favor).

Nope.... Bush Admirer's days are numbered. He's irrelevant. Ignore him. The more you respond to him, the more he gets his jollies.

Activists should be very proud at this point. We have much more work ahead. But the fact that 170 to 200+ thousand people took to the Streets today without a draft and without full war on Iraq underway is a major accomplishment.

And for those that agree with Bush Admirer, I would only ask that you take 90 minutes to listen to what Scott Ritter says about the lies of this war. Listen to his speech here, if you are brave enough to hear how a Republican soldier and weapons inspector lays to waste all the god damn lies our government is pushing on us. Here's the speech:

There was a huge Green Presence today!

The march was again, another event which feels like something I'll remember for the rest of my life.

Really, really wonderful....

I think you would have to look high and low to find anyone who is both literate AND in agreement with Bush Admirer.
He makes most of his ilk look like degenerate idiots and assholes; I'm sure he has turned at least one right winger to the left by doing such a great job of taking all the polish off the official lies.
In fact I'm almost suspicious he's one of us, using black propaganda to make the right look awful. If so I would suggest to him that there is no need for those sort of hijincks and let's not stoop to their level.
by Bush Admirer
Geez X, are you ever misinformed!

First of all, I haven't ever been confronted with 'cold, hard facts' going against my position.

You've discredited yourself by backing Scott Ritter. He's a loose cannon if their ever was one. The guy is dangerous to himself and to his own country. He needs mental care.

Activists have nothing to be proud of. What you call 'taking to the streets' is really 'making fools of themselves.'

A mob of dissident protestors sends a message to the rest of America. The message is: "Look at us, we're really weird."

but it wont stop bush, if bush admirer is anything to go on. US is not a democracy,as we can see by his unilateralism, abroad or at home , the administration acts as if it were sole ruler.
Bush admirer is a cute name: dogs are bush admirers too, they find bushs very useful...
by Bush Admirer
You are correct. Very few Americans even know about the dissident Anti Americans who marched today in San Francisco.

If they did know, they would be ashamed of the marchers.

They certainly would not be impressed with such protesters. They surely would not be 'getting a message' from such rabble. The collective opinion would be: That's weird.

I can understand that you don't want to put your name on your posts. I can understand that you don't have a title for your posts (with no content, how could there be a title?). What drivel!

what's in a name?

Your own post sure doesn't seem to have alot of content, either

And why criticize me? Do you think the jabbering "HAHAHA" idiot has lots of really great, intelligent content?

A simpleton like you would.

I was there for most of the day, walking around and observing, ready to videotape any trouble I saw.

There wasn't any.

The SFPD were as they always are. Present but not in any way threatening or attempting to intimidate anyone. I stopped and talked to a few officers and they were just as friendly as ever, just doing their jobs.

I walked past the State building, and likewise, the State Police in front were just 'hanging'; not bothering anyone.

Your posts continue to have no content and fail to make a point.

You should at least sign your posts. If you can't think of a name then might I suggest "Loser."

On September 11, 2001 we were attacked by terrorists. Since then, our president has provided great leadership and we've made gallant strides in our war against terror.

Most Americans support President Bush and applaud our efforts to stem terrorism. It's only the traitorous left wing lunatic fringe that opposes GW Bush.

That's what we find here on Indymedia: The left wing lunatic fringe

Bush is a cult member. If you think names are so important, sign your real one. Otherwise stop being such a whiny little fart.

Because he's lonely Looney and lame
Good to know the cops were cool today.
It does happen.
Tomorrow is another day. Pacifica covered
the marches pretty well, I wonder how the media
will spin this not that we can expect too much
from them. They must know that walking the tightrope
between reporting and propaganda forces them to
actually convey information or they loose their
fragile legitimacy.

Now I can't stop laughing!
(of course in fear) what a moron.

100,000 Rally, March Against War in Iraq

By Monte Reel and Manny Fernandez
Washington Post Staff Writers
Sunday, October 27, 2002; Page A01

Organizers with International ANSWER, a coalition of antiwar groups that coordinated the demonstration, had hoped for a turnout rivaling that of its pro- Palestine rally in April that officials estimated at about 75,000. Organizers said they easily eclipsed that figure yesterday, assessing attendance at well more than 100,000. D.C. Police Chief Charles H. Ramsey also said he figured yesterday's rally turnout exceeded that in April, but he didn't provide a specific number.

"We think this was just extremely, extremely successful," said Mara Verheyden-Hilliard, a D.C. organizer with International ANSWER, Act Now to Stop War and End Racism. "It absolutely shows that when George Bush says America speaks with one voice, and it's his voice, he's wrong."

I was at the Seattle WTO union protest where a stadium was filled with 40,000 or 50,0000 union protestors. Saturdays protest was way way way bigger. For 3 hours market st. streamed with protestors. The Seattle protest was under an hour long from back to front. Also Market St. was a lot wider than the streets in Seattle. I would say triple Seattle at a minimium.

My Estimation 120,000 to 150,000.

Any other rationalized guesses.

Here with Bush Admirer, we have found a wonderful illustratioon of the dangers this war has- where the huge amount of federal money used to wage war has drained other areas (such as education), allowing, ignorant, bigoted and plainly hopeless folk like him free rein over idiotic speech in society (yes, right to speech exists, but sorry Bush Admirer, contradiction is obvious when you have no facts at all, and sit back pretending this protests were all fringe group that equaled around 1000.) I marched with between 180,000 Democrats, *REPUBLICANS against war, and then a huge coalition of other Liberal/Union/everything else groups (*remember their message in the New York Times a few weeks ago against the war? or do you want to pretend that didn't happen? If you want I'll send you a copy- but these folk are quite numerous, and many are ex vets from vietnam (some from the Gulf) -who stand for YOUR good ol' family values and preservation of existing institutions, yet even THEY have the common sense to know that this is a greed driven crusade for oil. How would you attempt to explian THEM, as they were quite noticable at the protests... that shouldn't be so easy for a guy with the tiny thought process you possess.). YOu are now the master of the idiots, and definately an excellent spokesman (certainly has the time to give the same damn repetative messages to EVERYONE on these posts about how they are missing out in life by not being assimilated into his conforming lifestyle.) I don't know how derogatory the word "wierd" he's using is supposed to be, but I certainly feel better using my brain to question morality of situations than pretending some guy that doesn't focus on world issues *and instead watches football/passes out after choking on pretzels* has a great plan to "protect our way of life" by taking away our civil liberties, encouraging racism/ support of reactionary christian fundamentalist groups, inciting war with the entire east hemisphere... etc, somehow his intelligence doesn't dawn on me as existing. Bush Admirer, your posts are interesting to read (perpetuating the steryotype that all republicans are just dumbfucks who have nothing intelligent to say but are comfortable with supporting conformity and lack of factual evidence, yelling NOTHING of importance as loud as they can or just being voices of disgust at any potential improvement to the precious "system".), but you really need some facts man. Get an education, or at least a life. Do this by stopping the gov't war funding, then maybe the gov't can afford a college scholarship to your dumb ass, and once inside the university system you won't get confused at numbers at protests, because the "ignorant rabble" recieving HIGHER EDUCATION will all have the sense to PROTEST, and then you will have no chance to fide your eyes from reality as they swarm around you chanting tomorrow's peaceful societies' songs in unison. Good luck! -Steven
