Forest Peace Alliance trip to the Mattole
A group of activists and Pacific Lumber reps went out into the Mattole, to talk about the issues...here are a few pictures from that day...
As part of the out-of-court settlement of the David "Gypsy" Chain civil suit, the Forest Peace Alliance was formed. The intention is to bring activists and PL workers & management together, in a non-confrontational atmosphere, to discuss the issues and try to come up with creative solutions to the problems we face as a community.
A number of events have been held already, including a dinner in Fortuna, a Labor Day picnic, and, most recently, this trip to the Mattole.
We visited some sites of PL's chosing, and some of our own, and discussed our visions for sustainability and a brighter future.
We visited an active yarding site, which is shown in the loading picture.
This is the last thing the big corporations want to see, the locals getting together, not fighting each other, and really talking, face to face.
To me, this was a groundbreaking day, one that would have made Gypsy and Judi Bari very happy...I'm sure their spirits were with us.
