Lies of Bay Area Olympic Swindle

by Concerned Taxpayer
The Bay Area Olympic bid of 2012 is fortunately in jeopardy due to the lies as to housing and sports venues of its proponents, the Bay Area Sports Organizing Committee.
The Bay Area Olympic bid of 2012 is fortunately in jeopardy due to the lies as to housing and sports venues of its proponents, the Bay Area Sports Organizing Committee.

The Olympic Games in densely packed San Francisco Bay Area, the 4th largest metropolitan area in the US, will cause a major housing crisis, gridlock on our roads and a security hysteria we do not need. And, of course, the taxpayers will most certainly pay. That is the biggest lie, stated at the very beginning. Everything always costs the taxpayers money, especially these palm-greasing construction project schemes known as stadium swindles, of which the Olympic Games is always the biggest.

Now, the San Jose Mercury, 10/21/02, has exposed outright lies by the BASOC that will certainly put an end to this ridiculous bid. The Summer Games should be permanently in Athens, (will be there in 2004 and should stay there), and the Winter Games should be permanently in Norway (was there in 1994 and the facilities are still there).

Of course, it is not over until it is over, but here are the pertinent paragraphs exposing the outrageous and outright lies, taken from the article at:
http://www.bayarea.com/mld/bayarea/news/breaking_news/4329815.htm

"Trustees with Santa Clara's Mission College say they were surprised to learn the nonprofit group trying to bring the 2012 games to Northern California told the United States Olympic Committee the campus would be home to its $47 million tennis venue."
""It is a completely false presentation," said Jeffrey Schwartz, a district trustee."

"And the U.S. Army, which controls the former military base where the Bay Area Sports Organizing Committee hopes to build an $830 million Olympic village for thousands of athletes and staff, say they've never indicated the land was available.
Maj. Jeff Cooper, the Army housing project manager for Moffet Field near Mountain View, said the land currently is earmarked for military housing."

"Officials with Stanford University, the proposed home of a new $337 million stadium that would house track and field and opening and closing ceremonies, support the plans but acknowledge they currently lack approval from trustees or investors."
