Homeless Depot - Toronto

by bov
Got this email from a Canada list I'm on - it sounds like a good idea!
COMMUNITY FREE STORE AND RALLY AGAINST HOMELESSNESS

9:00am on
Saturday, October 26, 2002
Cyrville Park
Meadowbrook Road (at Cyrville Road)

FREE HOT FOOD!  FREE STUFF!  FREE PICKUP AND DELIVERY!

On the early morning of September 25, the residents of Tent City in
Toronto were forcibly removed from their homes by a private security
firm hired by Home Depot.  This followed on the heels of the forcible
eviction of squatters at the Woodwards Building in Vancouver and the
Seven Year Squat here in Ottawa earlier this summer.

In solidarity with squatters everywhere, members of the Ottawa Coalition
Against the Tories (OCAT), Anti-capitalist Community Action (ACA) and
their supporters are organizing a “Homeless Depot”, an east-end community
Free Store and Rally demanding housing for all.  This event marks the
reinvigoration of our local campaign to reclaim unused space to create self-
managed community housing now, and to call for an immediate reinvestment
in social housing by all levels of government, as demanded by the Ontario
Coalition Against Poverty (OCAP) and the Toronto Disaster Relief Committee
(TDRC).
