The SHORTWAVE REPORT 10/18/02 ¡Listen Globally!

by Dan Roberts (outfarpress [at] saber.net)
A weekly 30 minute review of news and opinion recorded from a shortwave radio. 2 files- broadcast quality (13.3MB) and quick download (3.3MB). With times and freqs for listening at home. Free to rebroadcast. Netherlands, Germany, Spain, and Cuba.
Dear Radio Friend,
The latest Shortwave Report (October 18) is up at the website http://www.outfarpress.com/outfarpress/shortwave.shtml in both broadcast quality 13.3MB) and quickdownload or streaming form (3.3MB) (28:56) It's free to rebroadcast, please notify me if you're airing it and haven't notified me in the last month, please mention the website if you only air a portion. If you just want to listen and have a slow connection, try the streaming version- lower sound quality but good enough and way easier if you don't have a high-speed internet connection. If streaming is a problem because of your slow connection, download the smaller file- it takes 20 minutes or less, and will play swell in any mp3 player application (RealPlayer, Winamp, Quicktime, iTunes, etc) you have on your computer.
This program will be aired at 7pm PDST this Friday evening at KZYX/Z Philo CA and you should be able to stream via http://www.kzyx.org/
There are several other streams that work quite well- http://members.cruzio.com/~frsc/ Freak Radio Santa Cruz streams this program on Friday at 5:35pm (PDST) and on Monday at 9amPDST.
Also check out LavaLamp Radio (Japan)- http://www.rinku.zaq.ne.jp/bkaec205/
streaming the SWR at Fri 10:30PM/ Sat 10:30AM PM/ Sun 10:30AM PDST
and the Partytown streams are great and informative- http://www.partytown.com/radio
This week's show features stories from Radio Netherlands, the Voice Of Radio, Spanish National Radio, and Radio Havana Cuba.
From Netherlands- the deadly bombing in Bali at a disco was immeadiately attributed to Al-Qaeda by the US President and others- later reports of an Air Force Officer’s arrest and that the explosives may be traced to the Indonesian military, suggest that former dictator Suharto and others may have been involved. On World Food Day, the famine in parts of Africa is worsening- as food aid is distributed, the problem of countries refusing genetically-modified crops, which is what the US is offering, is creating a deadly paradox.
From Russia- US Defense Secretary Rumsfeld has updated the guidelines on military operations, stating that the US military should not be constrained. Then, many Americans including scientists are calling for a reassessment of the ballooning US military budget, especially in the field of bio-weapons.
From Spain- An Israeli Human Rights group is accusing the Israeli military of unnecessary murdering of Palestinian youth breaking curfew.
From Cuba- Jimmy Carter has accused Geo Bush of abandoning the pursuit of peace in the middle east. The British ambassador to Israel has described the occupied Palestinian territories as the largest concentration camp in the world. French Pres Chirac says he knows of no relationship between Iraq and Al-Qaeda, and the disarmament of Iraq should not be confused with the so-called War On Terror. Then a review of last Sundays New York times article on the use of mercenaries in the US military.
All that plus times and frequencies for listening at home. I hope you'll listen and air this if you're connected with a radio station. I am still wondering how to get financially compensated for the 25 hours I put into this program weekly- any ideas are appreciated. Any stations rebroadcasting this (or listeners) are welcome to donate for production costs. You can do so through the website. Many thanks to those that have donated! No Guilt!
