Ecuador against the FTAA

by tristan
Mobilization in Ecuador for the FTAA summit at the end of October
No al Plan Pueblo Panama, Abojo con Plan Colombia, Carajo al Alca: the walls of Quito, Ecuador speak. Mass movements, NGOs, collectives and individuals are preparing for resistance against the FTAA ministerial summit at the end of October. Organizations are trying to mobilize thousands for meetings, forums and protests. And we have to remember that as recently as a few years ago they overthrew the president through protest. People are coming from all over Ecuador as well as Latin America and even the US and Europe. On the 12th of October we will have a march, El Grito de los Excluidos (The Shout of the Excluded) to remember the massacre that Colombus began 510 years ago. On the 23rd caravans from Peru and Columbia and all over Ecuador leave to converge on Quito. On the 28th the Social Forum begins and on October 31st in a mass march and direct action against the FTAA Summit. We are trying to get the word out. check out ecuador.indymedia.org There should be some news in English and more as time goes by, there is already lots of info for people coming down in English. One thing we need is people that can translate from Spanish to English. If you can help with this important task please e-mail nadadealca [at] yahoo.com We also really need money. A small amount of dolars in the US will mobilize many people here by paying for thier transport to Quito. Make checks out to Public Citizen Foundation, attention Timi Gerson, 215 Pennsalvania Avenue S.E. Washington DC 20003. Put FTAA-Ecuador Project on the memo line.
