UC Santa Cruz Peace Rally!

Students at UCSC walked out of classes today and joined over 500 people gathered outside McHenry Library to protest White House plans for unilateral military action against Iraq. The rally was organized by the Stand Up for Peace coalition. The gathering was scheduled to begin at noon, but the number of people continued to grow until about 1:00 pm when over 500 people were estimated to be in attendance. Many speakers shared thoughts and strategies for mobilizing against a war in Iraq; others shared spoken word or comedy. Among the list of speakers was the mayor of Santa Cruz and two city council members. The event was considered a success by organizers.
