Rep. Jim McDermott, the Baghdad Beach Bum (on a pro-Saddam propaganda trip, he boasted of his "Vietnam War" service in sunny Southern California), spoke to a Not in Our Name protest in Seattle yesterday. "What we are dealing with right now in this country is whether we are having a kind of bloodless, silent coup or not," McDermott said at a "town meeting" before the demo. "This president is trying to bring to himself all the power to become an emperor--to create Empire America."

McDermott is a psychiatrist. But isn't it the PATIENT who's supposed to say he's Napoleon?

Even sillier than McDermott's rant is this "diagnosis" by one Carol Wolman, a psychiatrist with the Mendocino Community Network:

Dubya may be acting out a classical Oedipal drama--overcome Daddy to get Mommy. By deposing Saddam, when his father did not, he may want to prove himself more worthy of his mother's love. His rationale that he is avenging the assassination attempt on George, Sr., may be a reaction formation--his way of hiding the true motive from himself.

The idea behind McDermott's stance if you remember correct is to let inspectors try to do their job before we go to an all out invasion. I think that is what educated people call acting with restraint, with reason. Someone who shoots first and asks questions later is a cowboy, a yahoo. This is what we get for electing a president who hails from Texas.
