NOT IN OUR NAME DEMONSTRATION IN FRESNO
By Mike Rhodes
Over 150 people came together in Fresno to protest the Bush administration’s drum beat of war. The theme for the demonstration was “Not in our Name” and was a part of nationwide protests that took place throughout the country on October 6. The group spread out on both sides of the busiest street in town and waved as drivers honked their approval.
This event followed a 10 mile march through Fresno by over 100 anti-war demonstrators 3 weeks ago. “Momentum is building to stop Bush’s endless war,” said protestor Pam Whalen. Many participants stopped by to sign the Not In My Name petition being distributed by Peace Fresno http://www.fresnoalliance.com/peacefresno/ .
The only media that showed up to cover the event was the Community Alliance magazine http://www.fresnoalliance.com/home/ , KFCF 88.1 FM http://www.kfcf.org , and George Ballis who posts digital video of local events on his web site at http://www.sunmt.org/chronicles.html .
Apparently the corporate media believes that the debate about whether to go to war or not is only among the elite in the ruling class.
Dan Yaseen, one of the events organizers said that “there are many more actions are being planned” and that people interested in working to stop the war in Iraq should come to the next Peace Fresno meeting which will take place on Tuesday, October 8 at 985 N Van Ness in Fresno. For more information call (559) 23PEACE or contact Dan Yaseen at (559) 243-7483 or Danyasseen [at] aol.com .
