Are we so uncaring and callus that we can't take a 24-hour time out to reflect upon what happened one year ago today?

While many of those who died in the Sept. 11 attack on the twin towers of international capital were innocent of the crimes of imperialism, and a few were probably positively good people whose loss social fighters should mourn, I see no reason to grieve more for those 3,000 people than for the approxiamately 3,000 killed in a randomly selected 10-day period by the U.S. embargo against Iraq. And we should certainly grieve a hell of a lot more for the estimated 16,000 to 30,000 people, including many revolutionary comrades, killed by the U.S.-organized coup in Chile exactly 28 years before the fall of the towers. Likewise for the tens of thousands of Argentinians and Central Americans killed by U.S.-financed death-squad governments.

I could go on for hours cataloging all those killed by U.S. Imperialism. During the two hours that the event at U.C. lasted, probably 3,000 children around the world died of malnutrition and easily preventable or curable diseases. Most of these children would not have died but for U.S.-imposed austerity policies which cajole the govenments of those countries into sending wealth out to the U.S. and other imperialist countries rather than using them for clean water, health care, etc.

Our Grief over these ongoing murders should, indeed, be a Call for War -- World War against capitalism, imperialism, and the U.S. ruling class!
