Bush Did It! Demos/marches

by Carol Brouillet (cbrouillet [at] igc.org)
Bush Knew! We know that he knew! We need to let the world know that We Know! We can't let a Terrorist run the country and attack people at home and abroad. Saturday, September 7th, 10a.m. join the SF rally and march to the 4th annual 911 Power to the Peaceful Festival, or join us Wednesday, September 11th, at 4 p.m. in Oakland. "Bush Did It!"- we, the people must demand that he be held accountable for his crimes!
Saturday morning, September 7th, 2002, from 10:00 a.m. to noon the first "Bush Did It!" rally and march will begin in San Francisco at the Golden Gate Park Panhandle- Baker, Fell & Oak and March through Haight Street to arrive at noon at the “4th Annual 911 Power to the Peaceful Festival" (http://64.78.45.52/promotions/911_2002.html).

Wednesday afternoon, September 11th, 2002, the "Bush Did It! " demonstration will be at Oakland Federal Building, 4pm, 12th and Clay, March to Broadway, Rally at 12th & Broadway 5:30 p.m..

Citizens marched on their representatives in California last January to Demand a Congressional Inquiry of 9-11, they raised a number of very serious questions. Bush and Cheney subsequently asked Daschle to "limit the inquiry to why the C.I.A. failed to stop the attacks and how the C.I.A. could be improved to prevent future attacks."

Congress failed utterly to investigate, or hold accountable, any government official whose failure to do their duty or to protect their country on September 11th, allowed the terrorist attacks upon the World Trade Center and the Pentagon to claim so many lives.

In addition to the lives lost on September 11th, the greatest attack upon our freedom, civil liberties, and the Constitution, have come from the White House and the Department of Justice, with the Patriot Act, the Anti-Terrorist Act, the Homeland Security Act, the proposed "Model Emergency Health Powers Act," and other legislation which curtails citizen's access to information, and expands the military, and security state apparatus.

Congress, the media, and the citizens of the United States, have been warned and threatened repeatedly by the Administration of the certainty of more attacks. The Anthrax scare helped the Administration push through the Patriot Act ,and the investigation of the perpetrators was stopped when the path led to the U.S. military labs.

Concerned citizens and journalists have found evidence of the Administration's foreknowledge of the "terrorist threat" prior to September 11, 2001. The utter failure of standard FAA procedures in the event of four simultaneous hijackings, and the penetration of the most restricted airspace in the United States after two successful strikes on the World Trade Center begs the question: "Were stand down orders given that day?" Criminal negligence, incompetence, conspiracy, or a combination of all three, Bush should be held accountable for his role on that day. He knew about the warnings; he was aware of the attacks; he did not act, respond, or try to save lives, in a timely fashion. There is still no hard evidence to corroborate the Administration's allegations against Al Qaeda and Bin Laden which do not lead directly back to the White House. Why were top U.S. government officials meeting with the head of Pakistani Intelligence, Lt. General Mahmoud Ahmad, from September 4th until Bush sent him to Afghanistan to demand that the Taliban hand over Bin Laden? Lt. General Mahmoud Ahmad had $100,000. wired to Mohamed Atta, who was identified by the F.B.I. as the ringleader of the terrorist attacks. How can the U.S. declare a "War on Terrorism" while funding, training, arming, supporting terrorists throughout the world- including Al Qaeda, which was, and is, a joint creation by the U.S. and Saudi Arabia, via Pakistani Intelligence?

Are the "interests of multinational oil companies" who installed Bush and are heavily represented in his Cabinet, the same as the genuine "security" interests of the American people or the world? The crime committed on September 11, 2001 has benefited the Bush Administration, the military-industrial-complex, multinational oil companies, a corporate elite who made billions in the stock market because of their "foreknowledge" of the attacks, as well as repressive regimes throughout the world which have followed the United State's example and declared all dissidents within their boundaries "terrorists." Freedom is under attack throughout the world, terror is used to frighten people into silence and submission.

We refuse to be silenced, to stop thinking, and to stop asking questions. We, the people, demand that our government respond to our questions. We demand honesty, transparency, accountability.

If the highest office holders in the land seek to shred the Constitution, the Bill of Rights, wage war domestically and internationally to serve corporate interests, at great cost to the planet, humanity, and the people whom they are sworn to "protect," the people must demand that their "representatives" begin impeachment procedures and demand a halt to the rampage of an "illegitimate government."

Congress will only respond if our voices are loud and clear. Tyranny is advancing each day in this country; the people must organize resistance faster than the government can organize repression. It is our duty, as people, as citizens, as parents, for ourselves, our children, for all those whose lives are touched by ours, for the planet which is being ravaged by war.

Add your voice to ours. Bring banners, signs, drums, music, all the means of communication that your creative spirit can dream up to help wake up this country and end the nightmare of this rogue government. Bring Earth flags and demonstrate that We Respect All Life. Dictators use violence, secrecy to silence and frighten those they wish to control; those who believe in Freedom use truth, transparency, respect, love, humor, compassion. We who struggle for peace and justice feel a sense of responsibility and solidarity with the oppressed. We must do more than oppose war and shout "Not in Our Name!" We must cast light upon the dark secret, break through the layers of denial, hold the real criminals responsible, replace a war economy with one which honors and nurtures life. Another world is possible!
