Unchained Reaction! is an elektronik, anti-nuclear resist.dance party/convergence being held on Friday, October 11 as part of the Action for Nuclear Abolition’s Direct Action/Peace Encampment outside the Nevada Test Site, about 60 miles northwest of Las Vegas. This celebration will be part of a week of ceremonies, rallies, direct actions, trainings and community gathering to resist nuclear testing and dumping on native lands, and to call for nuclear abolition. Right now, the U.S. government plans to dump 77,000 tons of high-level nuclear waste at Yucca Mountain, a sacred mountain on Western Shoshone land, which has several earthquake faultlines running through it. To top it off, the radioactive waste would be shipped across the country, on trains and highways, passing through large populated areas. Can we say deadly accident? In addition, Bush is threatening to begin full-scale nuclear testing again at the test site, also on Western Shoshone land. From Thursday, October 10 through Tuesday, October 15, thousands of people will be gathering at the test site for rallies, ceremonies, trainings and nonviolent direct action, to say NO to the nuclear nightmare, and to stand in solidarity with native peoples the world over who have suffered the effects of nuclear colonialism. Unchained Reaction! will be part of this convergence. We will have music, dancing and live performers all night on Friday, October 11, ending in time for a sunrise ceremony. We envision thousands of people dancing to reclaim the land for the earth and for all of life. We want to see color and creativity, community, dance, art, ritual and more. And we want your help. Bring your friends, your family, your art, your beauty. Help us make this an expression of the world we want to create, the world we know is possible. We call on you to dance with us, to make our drums louder than their guns and bombs, to dance in a new day together in the desert, a gathering of people who understand that now is the time to resist, to stand up and dance and be counted. Please note: this is a drug and alcohol free party, both to respect Western Shoshone policy and traditions, and because this is a protest camp. There will be sunrise ceremonies and sweatlodges open to everyone. For more information on the party, see http://www.greenjon.com/unchained, or email unchainedreaction@yahoo.com, or call (800) 486-6862.
