Portland Rocks!! Bay Area?

by bov
Local actions discussion.
teargas.jpg
We won't see this kind of action around here with many local groups trying to keep everything 'nonviolent' and generally passive, and stations like (free speech??) KPFA refusing to cover or promote protests that advocate resistance, or take risks (you know, like walking on our own bridge . . .What we we *thinking?*).

In Portland they used the idea to have different zones for different levels of risk - a simple concept, but one which we need to bring up more often. We can't let large organizations control protests in the Bay Area and keep everything entertaining and passive.

The Cheney protest was enjoyable, but what if the hecklers hadn't been strong? There would have been ZERO coverage of anything happening in SF.

Yes, babies will sometimes get pepper sprayed, and if we can help get that info out, help support the lawsuits, things will change.

Let's see what coverage, what risks, what strength gets shown in Stockton. I'm losing respect for the local middle-class protest organizations that are terrified to support any action beyond listening to their speaker tell us what we all already know, announce upcoming actions, and generally tone everything down which squelches the real anger people feel inthe crowd.

I know they work hard and they do a lot of good, but they need to *also* get behind smaller groups that want to take more risks.

If you had half the courage of the protesters you would physically show up and say what you just typed...but you are WAY too much of a pansy to express yourself in public, aren't you? Think about that internet boy.

Confront THAT SmashTheLeft!
by CourageOfMyConvictions
SmashTheLeft: You are consumed by anger, hatred, and resentment. If you don't turn it into constructive, positive action then it will build up inside you and make you very sick. Go to the cancer ward in any hospital and they will tell you the same; they deeply regret living a life of resentment. Are your "actions" here making you more or less angry? Does the burning resentment inside you feel healthy? Be truthful with yourself.

this is what happens in portland when the trailblazers dont win the championship. let's face it this is a state where it's against the law to pump your own gas. how looney is that? when basketball season kicks in these people will settle down.
by bill walton
these people always get this way when the trailblazers dont win the championship. lets face it this is a state where its against the law to pump your own gas. how looney is that? when basketball season gets underway again these people will calm down and go away.

What a joke to think that dissent solely derives from the left! Think about the dissent of the right--including top Republicans--which even now opposes Bush on a variety of issues. I am sure that many in that crowd do not vote democrat. For instance Libertarians oppose Federal medling in Environmental issues, the wars Bush wants, and stifling dissent. But, some people just can not think past their own bigotry.

I find the Democrats and Greens Platforms oppresive and patronizing. The left pushes for a population that is toothless and pampered. But that does not mean I disagree with their rights to express themselves and dissent. This is the USA, we have a long history of patriotic dissent and protest. That is part of the American way.

I have enjoyed every minute of the Portland, Oregon demonstration against the criminal bush family Taliban. Love it! Hope California will out-do Portland, and keep the ball rolling. Without Liberal/True American demonstrations, our country will continue to be a second Haiti, China or 1945 Germany. The police was/is wrong in violating American's Constitutional Rights.
Those who hate the Liberals, without Liberal intervention, we would still have slavery, no women's right to vote, no say in how our lives should be. Yep. Keep bushie's idiotic Butt!

Smashy gets a hard on when the cops bully old ladies. Shows you how retarded this element of the right is. They feel big and tough aligning themselves with power, ie., corporations, cops, pentagon, CIA, warmongering, etc. How brave is that?

This is just a reflection of their own feelings of inadequacy, cowardliness, and fear. So easy to manipulate. They've never stood up to power before, and feel it makes them more of a man to mock those that do. It's really sad and pathetic. It's like the little guy on the playground that worships the school yard bully.

The real hero, of course, is the one that finally stands up to the bully.

Down through history, there have always been knuckledraggers like this, who are more than happy to attack those who stand up to the power structure. They're just ignorant thugs, and really have no place in a democracy.

Smashy. I suggest you go to Columbia, join a right wing, US funded, CIA trained, death squad, and murder some little brown leftists for oil. Man, down their, you'd have the time of your life.

hey panty-waist,

what is it about free speech you don't understand you friggin' bootlicking, corporate ass licking, nazi scumbag? yeah, i'm a peace loving person, but i draw the line with human trash like you. if you ever tried to intimidate me by pulling out your ar-15, i'd disarm you and shove that thing so far up your ass you'd be shitting lead for a month. then i'd send you limping back to your trailer park.

people like you make me sick. my ancestors fought to keep this country free. it's unamerican, unpatriotic, cocksmoking, sycophantic little worms like you that threaten the freedoms of the country i love. the country i would die to defend. crawl back into your hole, and take your bootlicking, inbred, putrid, republican friends with you.

Smash the Left is an American citizen. As such, he can now be indefinitely (i.e., for life) jailed in some obscure camp or prison without any legal rights whatsoever.

Just like in Stalin's world.

And Smash the Left defends this vision of our dear nation which was once free by pointing to his hero, Bush, who has just turned the grand old United States into a police state.

Perhaps Smash the Left will someday simply "disappear." No one will be able to assist him, because he no longer has any rights, just like the other American citizens who are now locked up with no rights, not even the right to a lawyer.

Yes, Smash the Left and his ilk are saving the country all right. Saving it from democracy itself.

Now run off, little Commie Smashy, and go worship Stalin, since you obviously think this nation is still a democracy. Bush and Ashcroft's policies are something Hitler or Stalin would have been proud of, just like you are.
by think
if this were a police state youd need written permission from the government filled out in triplicate to cross the bridge from san francisco to oakland. until you have to do that this is most definately NOT a police state. you enjoy more freedoms here than the vast majority of people around the world and for you to say that you are somehow oppressed here is to belittle those people around the world who really DO live in adverse conditions. last time i checked there were a whole lot of people wanting to imigrate to this country and there were very few if any who were boarding ships to sail and live in china or cuba or north korea or saudi arabia or iran or iraq or india or most countries in africa. think.
by Smidgeon
Think,
The point is that incrementally Bush is eroding the freedoms we have. He is cynically exploiting 9/11 to expand state power, so his administration can carry out their criminal activities. Mouth breathers like Smashy constantly try to obfuscate this fact. Everything Disappeared said is true. That could happen if Ashcroft decided to target mouth breathing drooling trolls like Smashy. But I don't foresee that in the near future. In the meantime, dissent is in danger. This should concern anyone who believes in democracy.

Yes, we are still more free than the nations you mentioned. And, yes, it's not unusual for folk from the Third World to want to immigrate to the First World. Why not?

We aren't a fascist nation now, because people down through our history have raised hell and protected our freedoms from our own government. Do you understand? You, Think, should pay more attention.
by X2
Certainly Bush is turning America into a police state. But he is much more easily attacked on other issues. For one, let's summarize his presidency: diplomatic failure, economic failure, intelligence failure, war, more economic failure, more diplomatic failure, scandal, more war.

He's not just evil; he's downright INCOMPETENT! All leading economic factors are down, way down. We're back to running a deficit, borrowing money again. 1.6 million jobs lost and over one hundred thousand more every month. World disrepute. All stock indexes dropping. American dollar weakening against the Euro. Investors considering "more stable" options than America. Saudis pulling out $200 BILLION from the US economy. Secularization process in Iran failing. Crime rising, incarceration exploding.

In short its really no mystery why he needs to create a police state. If by some miracle he serves another term, he's gonna need one. America will only overlook his total inadequacy for so long. That's why he needs a police state.
