THE BLACK MAN “HAD NO RIGHTS THAT THE WHITE MAN WAS BOUND TO RESPECT”
Chief Justice Taney, Dred Scott case, l857

“YEAH, AND I’M GOING TO HELP ‘EM FRY THE N****R”
Judge Albert Sabo speaking about Mumia Abu-Jamal,
l982

Another man, Arnold Beverly, has confessed to the murder for which Mumia was framed. But Mumia is still on Death Row! Now Pennsylvania Judge Dembe has literally ruled that Mumia is not entitled to an impartial judge and that Judge Sabo’s determination to “help ‘em fry the n****r” is no grounds for a new trial. THIS IS LYNCH LAW. As Mumia said, “They don’t just want my life. They want my silence.” There is no free speech in the US if you are a consistent critic of this government, black and a revolutionary.

COME DEMAND MUMIA’S FREEDOM NOW! PROTEST THE RE-IMPOSITION OF LYNCH LAW BY THE AMERICAN JUDICIARY!

Sign and circulate the new amicus (friend of the court) briefs proving Mumia’s innocence and showing that the Pennsylvania courts refusal to hear this evidence violates international human rights law.

RALLY & PRESS CONFERENCE!
TUESDAY, AUG. 27TH OAKLAND 5:00 P.M.

THE CORNERSTONE OF YOUR ARGUMENT IS WRONG.
IT SUGGESTS THAT IF MUMIA IS INDEED GUILTY OF THIS ALLEGED CRIME HE DESERVES TO ROT IN SOLITARY CONFINEMENT FOR THE REST OF HIS NATURAL LIFE.
YOUR EFFORTS SHOULD BE AT LIBERATING HIM AND THE MULTITUDES OF OTHERS LIKE HIM EVEN IF THEY COMMITTED THE CRIME.
WE ALL KNOW THAT COPS CARRY THE LICENSE TO KILL AND MORE OFTEN THAN NOT ABUSE THIS RIGHT.
IT IS BEHOLDEN UPON EVERY MINORITY MEMBER TO UPHOLD HIS RIGHTS TO SELF DEFENSE EVEN IF IT MEANS STRIKING AN ARMED GANGSTER OR POLICE OFFICER.
IN ALL, COPS ARE NOT ABOVE OUR LAWS AND IF SOME DIE AS A RESULT OF ABUSE OF THEIR POWER, IT IS THEIR FAULT AND NOT THEIR SUBJECT.

Friend,

I commend you for challenging the press release I posted on behalf of the Task Force.

There have been more than a few liberal pretenders who have rallied to Mumia’s cause. Because of their faulty foundation for doing so, they have often fell away under the gentlest of pressure or were fooled by the simplest of the court’s tricks. (Or they understood the limitations of their liberal approach and became radicalized in the process.)

Here I speak for myself, by the way, and not for the Task Force.

I believe you have misread the statement. We do not say anything close to "The cornerstone of your argument is wrong.
"It suggests that if Mumia is indeed guilty of this alleged crime he deserves to rot in solitary confinement for the rest of his natural life."

Where have we presented this?

I can only presume you have read into our assertion that Mumia is Innocent that we cede the right of the racist capitalist state to do with him what they will if he is “guilty”.

I cede no right to the deeply oppressive "criminal justice" system, to judge the innocence or guilt of anyone!. The criminal justice system exists to maintain the rule of the rotten, racist economic elite of this country. This criminal justice system is not impartial, but serves and has always served to protect the status quo. The legal team now raises the historic and infamous Dred Scott decision to make the same point. Mumia was denied the right to sit in a court not lead by an open racist and open collaborator of the prosecution. How is this accepting the fate of Mumia no matter what the courts say?

I believe Mumia and ALL political prisoners must be free, not matter what crimes the racist, capitalist system has charged them with and no matter what the evidence they have to back up their claim.

But if our movement cannot even free Mumia Abu-Jamal, who is clearly innocent--and the court knows this--and this fact is crystal clear to millions of people all over the world---how will we ever free the less known, and sometimes "guilty” (by the standards and interests of the tiny capitalist elite) political prisoners?

We can however mobilize people to fight for the freedom of the long-suffering political prisoners of this country. And because that kind of mobilization and the fierce determination of the man himself, Mumia is alive today. He has a reprieve from the death warrant now Chief of Homeland Security Tom Ridge signed. But the battle is far from over. The prosecution’s case is falling apart today. We are destroying it piece by piece. Like the case against Captain Dreyfuss in France in the 1880s, the web of lies upon which the prosecution case is based is being exposed.

A focused, disciplined and militant movement can liberate Mumia from incarceration. This movement cannot be crippled by a reliance on the “fairness” of simply demanding "a new trial" when it is clear that Mumia will never receive a "fair" trial--unless the multitudes are mobilized to demand his freedom now. It is this pressure, pressure that is solid, and is not fooled by liberal misleaders into pretending that we must passively wait for the outcome of a "fair" trial. The fair thing will be for him to be set free and for the state to exonerate him.

One of the most valuable assets today to build that mobilization to free Mumia is **HIS ACTUAL INNOCENCE** of the crime for which he has been convicted. Would you deny this great fact to be used by us who are trying save his life and in doing so hand the exploiters of this country a defeat so powerful that it will help break the illusions of many who accept the "morality" and "justice" of American Democracy?

I well remember when Mumia was arrested. I happened to be watching TV, not something I often do, and said at the time this man was framed. I still do not believe Mumia did what he was convicted of. He needs a whole new, fair! trial, not just a sentencing trial, though that's a small step in the right direction. Another needs a whole new trial, as he was likewise framed. This "justice" system is more system than just, but it works just as it was meant to work, if anyone would admit it.
