We need better publicity about these demonstrations before they happen. I hear about lots of left events, often through multiple emails, phone messages, leaflets, etc., but I didn't hear about this one until it was reported on KPFA news after it happened!
Anyone who want's to get on the Solidarity Committee's mailing list, contact me directly. The Solidarity Committee is comprised of ILWU supporters, from other union, workers in the non-union sector and students.
Actually I heard about it , but couldn't make it. It was right in the middle of a busy day for me.

There was advance publicity:
(1) Jack Heyman's excellent op-ed piece in the San Francisco Chronicle on July 23, 2002 was accompanied by an announcement of the rally. See:

(2) KPFA, 94.1 FM, announced it on the morning show between 7 a.m. and 9 a.m. a week before the rally, accompanying an interview with people active on this issue.
(3) On KPFA, during David Bacon's weekly labor report on the morning show, usually between 7:30 a.m. and 8 a.m. Mr. Bacon announced this event on the day of the rally, July 24.
(4) The Bay Guardian's Political Events listings, "Alerts," probably had it, although I simply do not remember. All political activists should check that page every week, in the course of doing Wednesday's homework, commonly known as reading the Bay Guardian. It is online and on the streets. See:
