The SHORTWAVE REPORT 7/26/02 ¡Listen Globally!

by Dan Roberts (outfarpress [at] saber.net)
A weekly 30 minute review of news and opinion recorded from a shortwave radio. 2 files- broadcast quality (13.4MB) and quick download (3.4MB). With times and freqs for listening at home. Free to rebroadcast upon notification. China, Cuba, Netherlands, Germany, Spain, and Russia
Dear Radio Friend,
The latest Shortwave Report (July 26) is up at the website http://www.outfarpress.com/outfarpress/shortwave.shtml in both broadcast quality 13.4MB) and quickdownload or streaming form (3.3MB) (29:18) It's free to rebroadcast, please notify me if you're airing it and haven't notified me in the last month, please mention the website if you only air a portion. If you just want to listen and have a slow connection, try the streaming version- lower sound quality but good enough and way easier if you don't have a high-speed internet connection. If streaming is a problem because of your slow connection, download the smaller file- it takes 20 minutes or less, and will play swell in any mp3 player application (RealPlayer, Winamp, Quicktime, iTunes, etc) you have on your computer.
This program will be aired at 7pm PDST this Friday evening at KZYX/Z Philo CA and you MIGHT be able to stream via http://www.kzyx.org/ (It hasn't worked recently)
There are several other streams that work quite well- http://members.cruzio.com/~frsc/ Freak Radio Santa Cruz streams this program on Friday at 5:35pm and on Monday at 9am.
Also check out LavaLamp Radio (Japan)- http://www.rinku.zaq.ne.jp/bkaec205/
streaming the SWR at Fri 10:30PM/ Sat 10:30AM PM/ Sun 10:30AM PST
and the Partytown streams are great and informative- http://www.partytown.com/radio
This week's show features stories from Radio China International, Radio Havana Cuba, Radio Netherlands, Radio Deutsche Welle, Spanish National Radio, and the Voice of Russia.
From China- Iraq says a civilian was killed and 22 injured by US and British warplanes on Monday; Zimbabwe President Mugabe says Food Aid is being used as a tool to demand political restructuring; the Chinese government says the US is fabricating the idea of a China threat while selling weapons to Taiwan; China condemned Israel for it's latest attack on a Gaza neighborhood; China criticizes the US decision to not support the UN Population Fund.
From Cuba- a more in-depth report on the US decision to withold money from the UN Population fund, a victory for social conservatives and the Christian Right; the US Congress approved an anti-terrorism package that allows the Columbian military to use US weapons against guerilla forces, deepening US involvement in the war.
From Netherlands- human rights groups accuse the US of trying to derail an international treaty against torture; the EU will give 32 million Euros to make up for the US witholding UN Population funds.
From Germany- European opponents of genetic research on animals and humans have achieved a ban on patenting the isolation and manipulation of animal stem cells; a European Press review from Wednesday focusing on reactions to Israel's missle attack on Tuesday.
From Spain- first a description of the Israeli attack in Gaza and the Palestinian reactions to it; as the President of the Phillipines promised a tough government and a war without mercy against terrorism and crime, protestors battled with police; factional wars continue in Somalia.
From Russia- first a description of the Israeli attack in Gaza and the Palestinian reactions to it; as the President of the Phillipines promised a tough government and a war without mercy against terrorism and crime, protestors battled with police; factional wars continue in Somalia.
All that plus times and frequencies for listening at home. I hope you'll listen and air this if you're connected with a radio station. I am still wondering how to get financially compensated for the 25 hours I put into this program weekly- any ideas are appreciated. Any stations rebroadcasting this (or listeners) are welcome to donate for production costs. You can do so through the website. Many thanks to those that have donated! No Guilt!
