Now the courts won't hear the confession of the real killer, or listen to mountains of other new evidence showing how Mumia was framed. MUMIA ABU-JAMAL is an award-winning journalist, the world’s most well-known innocent political prisoner, the author of four books on the death penalty/prison industrial complex, and a leading antiwar fighter and social critic. On death row for 20 years, Mumia was framed for a murder in 1981 because he happened on the scene of the crime, and was an outspoken opponent of the virulent racism and brutality of the Philadelphia police.

His freedom struggle is supported by Amnesty International, the European Parliament, the 1.8 million-member California Labor Federation, Nelson Mandela, Ossie Davis, Danny Glover, Howard Zinn, Alice Walker, just to name a few. His case has been supported by the San Francisco & Detroit Boards of Supervisors, and by the City of Paris France (where he was made an honorary citizen). Union support has come from the SEIU, AFSCME, the National Union of Postal Workers, and the California Nurses Association, among many others. In 1999, longshore workers (ILWU) shut down all West Coast ports to free Mumia, and recently Local 10 (ILWU San Francisco) signed on to an amicus brief supporting Mumia’s innocence.

The evidence shows, beyond a shadow of a doubt, that Mumia is innocent!

Here are some of the key points:

The murder for which Mumia was convicted in 1982 was actually carried out by Arnold Beverly (together with an accomplice), on behalf of corrupt police officers who were trying to protect their graft and payoffs in downtown Philadelphia. Arnold Beverly has confessed, made a video, and is willing to testify in court. And proof of police corruption in Philadelphia is abundant.

Chief prosecution “eyewitness” Cynthia White’s testimony has been completely discredited. White admitted to Yvette Williams that she never saw the shooting, and lied on the stand under intense police pressure. Williams has prepared an affidavit to this effect.

The prosecution’s second “witness,” Robert Chobert, has been similarly discredited. A professional investigator has stated that Chobert confessed to him that he was not on the murder scene, and also fabricated his story under police pressure.

A journalist who visited the scene of the shooting a few hours later has stated that the crime scene was left completely unattended, which is more than just odd, in the killing of a police officer. It shows that the police had no need for evidence, since they were making it all up.

Physical evidence at the scene proves that at least two gunmen were involved in the shooting, thereby destroying the prosecution “theory” of the case and confirming Arnold Beverly’s statement.

Philadelphia Court Reporter Terri Maurer-Carter states that presiding Judge Albert Sabo, at the time of Mumia’s original trial, said (with reference to Mumia), “Yeah, and I’m gonna help ‘em fry the n****r”! Sabo, who was known as a “prosecutor in robes,” sent more people to death row than any other sitting US judge. Sabo was completely prejudiced against Abu-Jamal, and excluded him from most of his own trial.
