Do You Want To Stop Yucca Mountain?
take action!
By now it is apparent to me that writing my politicians and signing petitions wasn't enough to stop Yucca Mountain from being the nation's burial site for nuclear waste. I now have the feeling I didn't resist it at all. I did what I was told, and nothing changed. I could give up or I could take action. The choice is mine.
What kind of action could stop Yucca Mountain? The Yucca Mountain plan involves every nuclear power plant in the country, and most interstates and railroad tracks-- which go through small towns and big cities. Yucca Mountain affects everyone. I could organize and inform people around the hazards of nuclear waste traveling through their back yards.
What kind of actions would actually stop the trains and trucks? If people in five towns along the nuclear sludge routes placed their bodies on the tracks and interstates, the nuclear sludge would stop! What if people in five cities and 30 towns stood together with their arms locked when the trains and trucks came?
Shove it back in our politician's faces: One Spill is Too Many!

won't we be safer when this stuff is all in one place, and not scattered around in thousands of poorly guarded places?
Theoretically, yes, it does seem that it would be safer to store it all in a single remote location. But not transferring the waste may result in some plants being taken out of production for want to waste storage space. I believe this is the fundamental reason for the gov wanting to use Yucca Mtn (i.e. so the plants can continue to operate and produce more waste).
Read both sides and you'll learn that the possibilities are just like playing russian roulette. It's time to recreate the non-violent resistance to this madness, like what happened in the late 70's and early 80's around the US and still continues in parts of Europe. It's sad and unfortionate as it might be. Instead of developing alternative energy, the politricians violate treaties with the Shoshone and recklessly march ahead.
OK, so you say we need energy. True(a whole other debate in of itself), but why are motors on refrigerators in households on the bottom of the appliance? Doesn't heat rise? Why not increase the insulation just a bit more? Humm, I guess the nuclear companies or someone like Enron wouldn't be able to scam the average consumer out of a few bucks(cumulatively, we end up with this mess).
Anyhow, the flyer is for the October 10th-15th, 2002, Nevada test site actions culminating from the walk mentioned above. Hopefully people can download and make some copies and let folks know about this.
