WHEREAS: On June 26, 2002, the Police of the Province of Buenos Aires opened fire on hundreds of unemployed, labor, political and community activists who were demonstrating peacefully for jobs and food on the Pueyrredon Bridge;

and

WHEREAS: At least two people were killed, over 90 wounded, and at least 17 sustained non-lethal gunshot wounds, testifying to the ferocity of the police repression;

and

WHEREAS: Federal police attacked demonstrators in Plaza de Mayo who were peacefully protesting the police repression at a demonstration;

and

WHEREAS: A general strike has been called tomorrow, June 27, in Argentina to protest the violence unleashed by the police forces of President Eduardo Duhalde;

and

WHEREAS: The uninterrupted protests of the Argentinean people are the consequence of the policies of the former governments of Carlos Menem and Fernando de la Rua, continued by the Duhalde administration in collusion with the interests of the IMF and the World Bank;

and

WHEREAS: The police have attacked at least one headquarters of the alliance Izquierda Unida, a legal organization that participated in the last four elections;

and

WHEREAS: The present government and Congress do not have the political legitimacy, moral authority or the political will to break the chains of the IMF, end poverty and repression, unemployment and govern for the majority of the people of Argentina;

WE THE UNDERSIGNED AND THE ORGANIZTIONS WE REPRESENT DEMAND:

The immediate investigation of the murder of Dario Santillan and all others killed since December 19, particularly those killed on June 26, 2002 at Pueyrredon bridge
The freedom of all arrested during June 26’s peaceful protests at Plaza de Mayo belonging to the organizations known as Bloque Piquetero, MDT Anibal Veron, PO, PC, MST, OST, and all other activists persecuted by the police
The indictment and prosecution of those responsible for the murder of innocent civilians during demonstrations.
Compensation for those wounded and/or unfairly arrested
Immediate universal, general and democratic elections for President, Vice-President, all seats in Congress and all public offices in the country.

TEXTO DE LA PETITION/RESOLUCION EN ESPANOL:

CONSIDERANDO que el 26 de Junio del 2002, la policia de la Provincia de Buenos Aires abrio fuego contra cientos de desocupados, activistas sindicales, militantes politicos y de la comunidad que se estaban manifestando pacificamente demandando trabajos y comida en el Puente Pueyrredon

y

CONSIDERANDO que al menos dos personas fueron muertas y otras 90 heridas, 17 de ellas de bala, testificando de la ferocidad de la represion policial

y

CONSIDERANDO: que la Policia Federal ataco a manifestantes que protestaban la represion policial en Plaza de Mayo

y

CONSIDERANDO: que una huelga general ha sido llamada para el jueves 27 de Junio contra la politica represiva del gobierno del Presidente Eduardo Duhalde

y

CONSIDERANDO: que las protestas ininterrumpidas del pueblo Argentino tienen su origen en la consecuencia de las politicas impuestas por los gobiernos de Carlos Menem, Fernando de la Rua y ahora de Eduardo Duhalde en plena concordancia con los intereses del FMI y el Banco Mundial

y

CONSIDERANDO: que la policia ataco a por lo menos un local de la alianza electoral Izquierda Unida, una organización legal que participo en las ultimas cuatro elecciones;

y

CONSIDERANDO: que el presente gobierno y el Congreso no tienen la legitimidad politica, la autoridad moral o la voluntad politica de romper las cadenas impuestas por el FMI y el Banco Mundial y gobernar para la mayoria del pueblo Argentino;

NOSOTROS, LOS ABAJO FIRMANTES Y LAS ORGANIZACIONES QUE REPRESENTAMOS DEMANDAMOS:

1. La inmediata investigacion y castigo del asesinato de Dario Santillan y la de todos los demas, muertos desde el 19 de Diciembre pasado y particularmente de los asesinados en el dia de la fecha en Puente Pueyrredon.

2. La libertad de todos los presos del 26 de Junio y las de Plaza de Mayo que pertenezcan al Bloque Piquetero, el MDT Anibal Veron, PO, PC. MST, OST y la de todos los demas activistas perseguidos por la policia.

3. El castigo de todos los responsables de la muerte y represion de civiles inocentes durante el curso de las manifestaciones.

4. Compensación economica para los heridos y los injustamente arrestados.

5. Elecciones generales inmediatas, universales y democraticas para Presidente, Vice y para renovar todos los cargos del Congreso y demas puestos electivos del pais
