PORTWORKERS
SOLIDARITY RALLY
(and BBQ)
Defend Portworkers’ Jobs!

THURSDAY
JUNE 27
11:00 am
Int’l. Maritime Center

PORT VIEW PARK
(end of 7th St.)
PORT OF OAKLAND

In less than two weeks contracts for nearly all West Coast maritime workers'
unions expire--longshore workers, sailors, marine firemen, mates, marine
engineers and Port of Oakland maintenance workers. Employers are
stonewalling negotiations and demanding major givebacks from union workers
trying to provoke a lockout or a strike. If all portworkers unite, we can
win.

Come to our Portworkers' Solidarity Rally. Let's show a massive display of
workers' unity. Hear speakers from all the major transport unions and
international labor federations.

Make labor's slogan real --
"An injury to one is an injury to all."

Speakers Include:

Jim Spinosa, ILWU International President
Richard Trumka, AFL-CIO Secretary-Treasurer
James Hoffa, Jr., Teamsters General President
John Bowers, ILA International President
Art Pulaski, California Federation of Labor AFL-CIO Sec.-Treas.
Ken Riley, Pres. ILA Local 1422, Charleston, S.C.
Richard Mead, ILWU Local 10 President
Kees Marges, Secretary of the ITF Dockers Section
Judy Goff, Sec.-Treas. Alameda County Central Labor Council
Wilson Borja Diaz: President of FENALSTRASE,the National
Federation of State Service Workers, Colombia, South America

From Jack Heyman, ILWU Local 10

ILWU's longshore contract expires at the end of June. The employer group,
Pacific Maritime Association, is threatening to lock us out or alternately,
we, 12,000 longshoremen, may be striking to defend our jobs, working
conditions and benefits. If such a conflict ensues, ILWU will need support
from all workers' organizations and political and community activists.

Over the years, ILWU has been supportive of other workers' struggles around
the world, South Africa, Liverpool, Australia, Chile, El Salvador, and
political prisoner Mumia Abu-Jamal. We've given support to many trade unions
here. Now we are appealing to you to roll up your sleeves and get involved
in our struggle.

In solidarity,
Jack Heyman
