A weekly 30 minute review of international news and opinion recorded from a shortwave radio. 2 files- Broadcast quality (13.3MB) and quick download/ streaming (3.3MB).
Free to rebroadcast upon notification. With times and freqs for listening at home. Netherlands, Spain, China, Russia, and Cuba
Dear Radio Friend,
The latest Shortwave Report (June 21) is up at the website http://www.outfarpress.com/outfarpress/shortwave.shtml in both broadcast quality 13.7MB) and quickdownload or streaming form (3.4MB) (29:57) It's free to rebroadcast, please notify me if you're airing it and haven't notified me in the last month, please mention the website if you only air a portion. If you just want to listen and have a slow connection, try the streaming version- lower sound quality but good enough and way easier if you don't have a high-speed internet connection. If streaming is a problem because of your slow connection, download the smaller file- it takes 20 minutes or less, and will play swell in any mp3 player application (RealPlayer, Winamp, Quicktime, iTunes, etc) you have on your computer.
This program will be aired at 7pm PDST this Friday evening at KZYX/Z Philo CA and you MIGHT be able to stream via http://www.kzyx.org/ (It hasn't worked in the last 3 weeks)
There are several other streams that work quite well- http://members.cruzio.com/~frsc/ Freak Radio Santa Cruz streams this program on Friday at 5:35pm and on Monday at 9am.
Also check out LavaLamp Radio (Japan)- http://www.rinku.zaq.ne.jp/bkaec205/
streaming the SWR at Fri 10:30PM/ Sat 10:30AM PM/ Sun 10:30AM PST
and the Partytown streams are great and informative- http://www.partytown.com/radio
This week's show features stories from Radio Netherlands, Spanish National Radio, China Radio International, the Voice of Russia, and Radio Havana Cuba.
From Netherlands- the pressure between India and Pakistan has decreased, but not the number of troops ready at the border. The U.N. predicts that poverty will increase drastically in developing countries. The U.S. wants peace-keeping troops exempt from prosecution by the International Criminal Court. Peru has suspended the planned sale of 2 utility companies following huge public protests.
From Spain- More details about the strike and riots in Peru over the privatization of electrical utlities. Foreign tourists used as hostages in Guatamela have been freed. Cuba announced results of the referendum on maintaining the communist form of government. Then a review of news from Kashmir, Iran and the Phillipines. Some Palestinians are claiming Israel is using the suicide bombings as a pretext to launch state terrorism.
From China- Yassar Arafat has taken issue with remarks by Condalisa Rice, U.S. National Security Advisor. The European Commission is moving forward with its retalitory plans against the U.S. for its recently imposed steel tariffs. Iraq says it’s not scared by reports that George Bush has told the CIA to topple Saddam Hussein.
From Russia- first a response to an editorial in the Wall Street Journal that was titled “The Last Cold Warriors”- a piece that was critical of those few US politicians opposed to the Star Wars development. Then a commentary on Bush’s green light to the CIA to get Saddam out of power in Iraq.
From Cuba- Radio Havana Cuba has been having serious transmission problems as you’ll hear in this final story. It’s an update from Wednesday night about the state of emergency in Peru, caused by the attempt to privatize electrical utlities.
All that plus times and frequencies for listening at home. I hope you'll listen and air this if you're connected with a radio station.
I am still wondering how to get financially compensated for the 25 hours I put into this program weekly- any ideas are appreciated. Any stations rebroadcasting this (or listeners) are welcome to donate for production costs. You can do so through the website. Many thanks to those that have donated! No Guilt!
