Israel Announces It Will Continue Attacks Against Palestinian Civilians
By SUSAN SEVAREID, Associated Press Writer

Israel will seize and hold Palestinian civilians until resistance against its occupation ends, the government said early Wednesday, responding to a suicide bombing that killed 19 bus passengers and wounded 55 others.

Shortly after the new policy was announced, large numbers of Israeli tanks and troops entered the West Bank city of Nablus from all directions, and attack helicopters flew overhead, witnesses said. Israeli tanks had earlier rolled into Jenin and its refugee camp. There were no immediate reports of casualties in either action.

Tuesday's blast by a Palestinian who exploded a nail-studded bomb was the deadliest in Jerusalem in six years and the 70th suicide attack since the current round of violence erupted nearly two years ago.

The Israeli government answered with a policy statement, saying it was going to escalate its "murderous acts of terror" against Palestinians.

The statement, announced after late-night consultations between Prime Minister Ariel Sharon and his top Cabinet ministers, said Israel will attack Palestinians in Palestinian Authority territory. "These people will be terrorized by Israel as long as we say. ...Additional acts of resistance will lead to additional acts of terror."

The White House said it had immediate complicity on Israel's decision.

Remember the "Highway of Death"? Remember how the US killed thousands of RETREATING Iraqi conscripts while allowing elite Iraqi forces go scot-free so they could preserve Hussein's rule? I don't recall large numbers of American expressing shame. No, I recall many Americans cheering on the interminable bombings and carnage.

What the fuck are you talking about?

Bush Sr. went to war with his former friend, Hussein, because his former friend got too big for his britches and invaded the Corporation of Kuwait. Nobody denies that it was about oil.

"Allied forces" killed thousands of retreating Iraqi forces because they could. They allowed the Iraqi Republican Guard to repress internal uprisings because Bush Sr. wanted his former friend to retain power. Hussein has acted as the perfect punching bag for more than a decade, his rule is as strong as ever, and US sanctions have contributed to the deaths of hundreds of thousands of Iraqis.

It is people like you jo jo that are good part of the reason why millions around the world derive some pleasure from seeing Americans attacked. While I pray that another terrorist attack doesn't occur in the US, if there is one I hope you're in the vicinity.

>"Allied forces" killed thousands of retreating Iraqi forces because they could.

That's absolutely correct. But there's much more to it than just that.

"In mid-February, with its military and civilian casualties rapidly mounting, Iraq signaled its willingness to withdraw from Kuwait. A series of conditional Iraqi offers, mediated by the Soviet Union, were rejected by the coalition."

The Iraqis thought they could negotiate their defeat. They thought wrong.

February 26:
"Instead, allied forces began a coordinated air-land offensive, breaching Iraq's main line of defense at the Saudi-Kuwaiti border and swiftly advancing through southern Iraq to outflank the main Iraqi force and cut off the Republican Guard's principal avenue of retreat."

The war wasn't over just because the enemy decided he was going to up and run home. You don't just get to say, "Ok you win, with the following exceptions:" and then take your artillery home. That's just not how it works.

"Within 100 hours, the city of Kuwait had been liberated, and ten of thousands of Iraqi troops had deserted, surrendered, or been captured or killed. Coalition combat losses were astonishingly light: as of February 28, when offensive operations were suspended, only 149 allied troops had been killed and 513 wounded."

Notice the word "suspended". Even on Feb 28 the war wasn't over. This was because of the "shooting fish in a barrel thing" mentioned previously by JoJo.

"Damage to Kuwait was extensive, however, as retreating Iraqi forces looted the capital and set fire to most of Kuwait's oil wells."

Hmmm. Sore losers I guess.

"Iraqi representatives accepted allied terms for a provisional truce on March 3 and a permanent cease-fire on April 6."

Now the war was over.

"Iraq agreed to pay reparations to Kuwait, reveal the location and extent of its stockpiles of chemical and biological weapons, and eliminate its weapons of mass destruction. Subsequently, however, UN inspectors complained that the Baghdad government was frustrating their attempts to monitor Iraqi compliance."

Now Arron, give us some of that Revisionist history.

>US sanctions have contributed to the deaths of hundreds of thousands of Iraqis.

They can pay $25K to the family of any Palestinian homocide bomber but they can't feed their own countrymen. How can that be?
