REAL TERRORISTS- Bush, Cheney, Rumsfeld
Listening for a Change in downtown Palo Alto, every Wednesday from 11-1, activists have gathered to dialogue with the public, and to raise issues censored in the mainstream press. A provocative banner (amongst many banners) has evoked warnings from police and security forces.
Since, last October activists have been gathering every Wednesday from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 a.m. to question the U.S.'s response to 9-11 and the "War on Terrorism." With many colorful banners, signs, props, chairs, tables laden with hand-outs, books, cookies, and home-made bread-rolls, people are invited to take materials, including food and asked if they have time to answer three questions-
"What do you think/feel about the events of September 11th and the U.S. government's response?
How could we "defuse" terrorism?
How could we create a safer, better world for our children, all children?
The responses have varied dramatically, but far less than 80% support president Bush's actions, the bombing of Afghanistan. While many people don't know what the "correct" response should have been, and can't imagine even the possibility of "defusing" let alone eliminating terrorism, there have been some truly creative, brilliant insights, and suggestions to get at the root of the problems which plague the world.
Sponsored by Women's International League for Peace and Freedom, the numbers of activists has varied from week to week, ranging from one to ten, usually four to five regulars come, some to ask questions, listen and record responses, others to hand out leaflets and engage in the discussions.
Last year, a beautiful benign banner was hung from tree and lamppost which said "One Earth, One People, One Love - Alice Walker with an image of a circle of people holding hands around the planet with a heart imposed upon it. The other side said- "One Air, One Water, One Hope, Respect All Life." The banner was lost in the January protests against the World Economic Forum in New York, to be replaced by a new one with the theme of the World Social Forum- "Another World is Possible."
In January the activists, along with other groups and individuals marched on Senator Feinstein's office in San Francisco to Demand a Congressional Inquiry of 9-11. The local folks also marched on Congresswoman Eshoo's office (which is a few blocks from Lytton Plaza) to voice the same demand. Shortly afterwards, Bush and Cheny asked that the Inquiry be limited to the joint Senate/House Intelligence Oversight Committee and be staffed by outside help- notably Britt Snider, ex- CIA Inspector General and close friend and General Counsel of George Tenet, current CIA Director, which prompted a new banner-

but it was after Michael Ruppert's talk in San Francisco that the more provocative side was painted-

When this particular banner was hung in Palo Alto, the police kindly informed us that there had been a couple of complaints and that it was illegal to hang banners from trees or light fixtures in Palo Alto.
Obviously, it was "the message," not the banners that were the problem with the police department. I had a similar experience at nearby Stanford University where the security person threatened to arrest me when the banner was on display and I was handing out my "Questioning the War on Terrorism" flyers. For a while I did not hang the banner in Palo Alto, for fear that I wouldn't be able to hang any of the banners. Then I met an ex-Public Defender who offered to where a suit and speak with the Chief of Police to defend my First Amendment Rights.
I was so frustrated by the lack of media coverage, both in the mainstream AND the supposedly "alternative/left/progressive" news looking critically at the "official government corporate version of what happened on September 11th" that I started hanging it in downtown Palo Alto again, but both police and media decided to ignore us.
New banners are added, as time marches on, and new issues crop up. I remember what Gandhi said, "First they ignore you, then they ridicule you, then they fight you, and then you win."

Looks great! Just wondering if you had to get a permit to set up like that.
Great banners! I know what it's like to have a regular small vigil. There is another little one every Wednesday from 4:30 PM to 6:PM down at the corner of El Camino and Embarcadero where I am one of the regulars. As far as I know, our effort has gotten zero press. Yours is much bigger and more visible. I'm looking forward to being there myself as soon as possible.

I don't have a permit. Anyone, anywhere, can usually claim the sidewalk, although I did let some people intimidate me off the sidewalk when we wanted to hold the big REAL TERRORISTS banner outside a building in San Francisco where the top Democrats were fundraising. We ended up standing on the curb (which we knew was public property- we were somewhat loud, passed out a lot of flyers, even gave one to Mayor Willie Brown.
The southern Pakistani city of Karachi has been rocked by a huge explosion near the US consulate, with initial reports of four people being killed.
Several others are said to have been injured.
The blast is thought to have been caused by a bomb in a car placed near the US consulate building.
Relief work at the site has begun and it is feared the number of casualties may rise.
A recent car bomb attack outside the Sheraton hotel in Karachi in May killed 11 French nationals and three Pakistanis.
Pakistani police suspect the Sheraton bombing was the work of the al-Qaeda network.
Several others are said to have been injured.
The blast is thought to have been caused by a bomb in a car placed near the US consulate building.

KARACHI (Reuters) - At least five Pakistanis were killed when a car bomb exploded outside the U.S. consulate in the port city of Karachi on Friday, police and witnesses said.
"The death toll has risen to five including one woman," a policeman on the scene told Reuters as sirens wailed.
The bomb destroyed a boundary wall of the consulate, damaged at least five cars and shattered windows. Small body parts were scattered 100 to 200 yards away from the scene of the blast.
"It is confirmed no foreigner or embassy staff, whether foreign or local, has been killed or injured," said provincial Home Secretary Brigadier Mukhtar Ahmed. "We suspect it is a suicide bombing."
The bomb left a crater several feet deep outside the consulate and smashed huge cement blocks which were placed around the embassy to slow traffic. Police immediately cordoned off the site.
Last month a suicide bomb attack outside a hotel in Karachi killed 11 French engineers and two Pakistanis. Although no one admitted responsibility for that attack, suspicion fell on Islamic radicals opposed to Pakistan's support for the U.S. war on terror.

You pathetic left winged activists! Whats the point of handing out your flyers and hanging your banners, what you have to say is nothing. You are nothing to the government. The ones in control now have the final say in everything that happens. Of all people you should know this, and by now you should see that fighting it is useless. It will not now or ever do any good. The world is in a downward spiral to the end of time and will never get better. Give up and let go. Games over, you lost.

Every day that passes without the Bush Administration coming clean regarding: what it knew about the terrorists plans before 9/11: the influence of Enron and other energy companies in shaping the Administration's energy and environmental policies; what it knows about Iraq's purported 'weapons of mass destruction'; and what motivates the Administration to continue repeating the lie that Saddam Hussein kicked out the weapons inspectors in 1998, when it is known that the US withdrew them for obvious reasons before we bombed Iraq; --- these unanswered questions and more undermine the faith of the American people in their government. Such silence is a shameful embarrassment.

It is absolutely mind boggling to me that so many people are still being fooled by the corporate controlled media. Once you find out like I did that they are wholly owned and controlled by big brother, why would you believe one single thing they say? I tell people in my community what really happened and where they can look up information on the subject themselves and some of them push it away like I was offering them an old piece of half chewed bubblegum. I don't understand their mentality. If the truth is that the CIA was behind 911 why do these sheep not want to wake up and make a stand. When it happened everyone was shocked and angered. Now that we have sidetracked the issue with a couple of bogus wars(that were in cards before 911) suddenly people don't care about all those people who lost their lives in cold blooded fashion? Everyone has a duty to research this event for themselves or else next time it could be in their home town and their own lives destroyed. We as a human family have a common enemy not known to most but nevertheless they are here and have been here for thousands of years controlling us through the manipulation of our minds, emotions, and fears. If you look at every major institution in society all over the world, if you do your research on how they operate, you will find that it is a big scam. Healthcare, FDA, the military, Banking, Politics, multinational corporations, etc, they are all scams and they are all connected, being contolled by the same force. Most of the people who work in those fields do not know how they are being used and are unaware of the agenda which only the few at the top of the pyramid are controlling. In a metaphysical sense we ourselves are to blame. By not honoring all life on earth as sacred and important beyond whatever use it may have, we have invited the same to be done unto us. Whatever you do unto others will be done unto you, it is a universal law and it applies to us as a human race as well. Just as insects have no idea of who we are, what we look like, and exactly how we are destroying and controlling them, most of us have no idea of who, what, or how these more advanced beings have infiltrated our world and are controlling it from the inside out.
