NO MAINSTREAM COVERAGE OF CASE THAT FBI LOST

by zumbi (loel [at] coolrio.com)
A truly monumental case, Judy Bari, et. al. vs. the FBI, et. al., has found FBI agents and the City of Oakland, California liable for serious civil rights violations, but you won’t hear or see it in mainstream media
June 11, 2002 was a historical day on which a California jury awarded over $4 million in damages as a result of FBI and Oakland police activity following a bomb blast in the car in which Earth First activists Judy Bari was driving and Daryl Chourney was a passenger back in 1990. Judi was literally nearly killed and taken to the hospital emergency room. Chourney was seriously injured and rushed to the hospital as well. Once out of the ER both were placed under arrest and police guard.

For background on the story of the original bombing and resulting police malfeasance go to: http://www.judibari.org and http://www.sf.indymedia.org

The other story in this story is that there is absolutely nothing on mainstream corporatized media about this historical case. Instead we are getting the CNN/ FOX “fair and balanced” reports of the new and improved and sanitized FBI, including reports of a US citizen who is being held without bail, without assistance of legal counsel, without being charged with any specific crime, all in violation of the US Constitution, because they can neurolinguistically frame him as an “enemy combatant.” His manner of treatment is even in violation of the 1949 Geneva Convention to which the US is a party, which applies to “enemy combatants.”

It appears that the administration of George W. is pushing the envelope and finding out just how much they can get away with. This does not bode well for anyone who does not agree with the current administration. Are all dissenters of current US policy possibly “enemy combatants?” It is the old - if you’re not with us, you must be against us” theme turned up a few clicks. Now they want to detain dissenters and hold them indefinitely without actually charging them or giving information about why they are being held. Currently, there are about 2,500 humans being held in this manner.

It’s like the Office of Strategic Information that the Darth W. Bush administration attempted to put over on the people in an ever so slight-of-hand kind of way some months ago. They ran this up the metaphoric flagpole on major media and it didn’t fly. So the government promised that they would not plant disinformation or false stories in the media ever again. Like they haven’t been doing it at least since the CIA coup in Guatemala in ’54. Yeah, right, and by the way they’re gonna stop overthrowing legitimately elected governments and replacing them with horrible CIA controlled dictatorships, too – except in Afghanistan and Iraq and Pakistan…

Oh, and what about Chile and the overthrow of the democratically elected Allende government where a CIA coup d’etat not only overthrew the legitimally elected government, but also blew up the capital and murdered the real president, but put this General Pinochet in charge. The same Pinchet who committed horrible human rights atrocities.
Really, think about it. It actually happened on 9/11 in 1972. The legitimally elected government of Chile was overthrown by a CIA coup which actually included the killing of the legitimate president and the terroristic destruction of the Chilean Capital Building.

It kinda puts the destruction of the World Trade Center in a different perspective – if you really want to think about it seriously.

It comes down to a situation of - we can do this to them, but if they try to do this to us we can imprison them indefinitely, without charges, for as long as we see fit.

Corporate media is doing their best as accomplices to what is being pushed upon the populace by a president of dubious legitimacy by covering his every word as he uses double speak phrases like, “we are creating more security in order to protect civil rights,” According to the Unabridged Orwellian Dicionary of Newspeak Terms, this roughly translates into “we are taking away your civil rights under the guise of protecting them.”

Mainstream media is also aiding and abetting in the non-coverage of damaging reports. One would think that a major, United States Federal Court decision, presided over by an official, US president appointed Federal Judge which hands down a verdict against the FBI agents for violating the United States Constitutionally guaranteed rights of individual citizens would be huge news, on all the wire services - what a shame on the mainstream press.

Judi Bari vs.the FBI is not over. Now come the appeals. I spoke with Daryl Chourney at a rally in front of the Federal Building in Oakland after the jury had had the case for about a week. He indicated that he and the legal team were hopeful of a positive verdict, one in favor of he and Bari. His hopes were fulfilled at the trial phase. One can only speculate as to the real ultimate outcome of the case.

But it doesn’t take a rocket scientist to know where corporate media will go.

So, where are the mainstream media reporters who are able to see through this charade? Why is there not dissention in the ranks of mainstream media about the squelching of stories? What is up with that? I know that this and other information is coming over the wires. Why are the underlings of the media “fix” going along with it? Is your job so important that you are willing to cover up the taking of the lives of many thousands of Afghani, Colombian, Iraqi, and other countries human populace, a/k/a, woman, men and
children.

And, to be fair to the mainstream media, a report just came across on FOX (fair and balanced) about the Judi Bari verdict that tended to indicate that activists were only looking for a payday. What up wit dat?
