June 13: Flyer for Idriss Stelley Anniversary March
This is a PDF flyer for the June 13th one year anniversary of when SFPD murdered Idriss Stelley at the Metreon Theater. Why are they getting away with this? They don't even have to engage the public at all and no one says anything. Why? How can we do what is necessary to get control of these murderer cops?

Enough supporting scum bag criminals already. Give your support to the police, they deserve it. Each day they put their lives on the line to protect our communities from robbing, raping, murdering criminals.
Idriss made his own choices and unfortunately paid for it in the worst way. However, he did not give the police a choice. I'll bet all you drones have your indymedia blinders on though. Not everything you read here is true.

What choices did Idriss make? Did he choose to have a mental illness?
He chose to go out in public armed with a deadly weapon.
He chose to threaten people/police officers with the same deadly weapon.
He chose to threaten people/police officers with the same deadly weapon.
So-called "deadly weapon" = two-inch blade bamboo-peeling knife. The Swiss Army knife I carry in my pocket all the time has a bigger blade.
There was no need to force the issue, killing a man with a small knife. He was clearly mentally disturbed, and pepper-spraying him is just going to agitate him more.
The police could have backed off, and tried to calm him down. Pepper spray does not count as a calming device.

Don't do the Crime
If you can't do the Time
If you can't do the Time
...he's in a grave.
Because SFPD kills people with mental illness instead of helping them.

Hey, let me attack one of you Hippies with a 2" blade and see how you react.
I've seen people do lot's of damage with far less.
Hesitation kills in those types of situations - and as I remember, and officer was actually slashed in that incident.
Your hatred of the Police has blinded you to the point that you cannot think logically.
Next you'll be asking why they didn't fire a "wound" shot.
Stupid, ignorant Hippies.

Idriss Stelley is just the latest baboon-boy savage of the type so beloved by the American left (Mumia the cop-killer, Those subhuman scum in Cincinatti last year etc etc). No doubt if he had succeded in killing someone-especially a police officer-he would be an even bigger hero for these vermin! Well now he lies in his grave-just one less future welfare case or death row convict that those of us who work for a living would have to subsidize for the rest of his natural life.
Yeah, sure you could 4 eyes.
I would have that knife up your ass before you even realized what happened.
Typical Leftist Bigot - You believe that because of your own biases and bigotry that all members of a certain group are bad.
Ah, yes - the "tolerant" left.
Next time you need help, will you call those "crooked" police to come help you, you little loser?
FRY MUMIA NOW!!!

Dear right wing fuck, you wouldn't have the opportunity to live out your blatantly homoerotic violence fantasy ... because you are a spineless whiner who trolls message BBSes and you would never have the guts to get in a fucking real fight. Tell you what, come to the next protest and you can meet me and my friends participating in block bloc actions and you can have your ass kicked by 4 anarchist women in masks. Otherwise, your pathetic posturing shows what a coward you really are.
I guess they have to wear masks, because all the "women" I see at these protests are so ugly that they could scare paint off of a wall.
Oh, I see, now BEAUTY and a pleasing appearance are prerequisites to believability and righteousness for you. Typical of a product of the TV-brainwashed. What a perfectly stupid comment from a perfectly ignorant person, extending the perfect example of the inability to have an actual debate on any issue of importance.
um don't you right wing trollers support the law?
what those cops did is called "murder".
it's illegal.
they should be arrested and receive a trial for MURDERING a US CITIZEN.
police brutality is ILLEGAL.

to the first guy who replied:
the police who attacked Idriss are the "robbing murdering criminals" of which you speak
I agree, we should give our SUPPORT to the OTHER POLICE that will come and ARREST these murdering criminals. We should help these OTHER POLICE arrest the BAD POLICE WHO MURDERED so that they can go to court for MURDER.

This was not murder. The cops shot Idriss in self defense. Although that may still qualify as killing, it is not illegal and therefore does not qualify as murder.
Had Idriss not slashed that cop, he might still be alive today.

This isn't true or false. It isn't known. SFPD is still continuing its "investigation". The officers have not been suspended or otherwise punished and continue to patrol the streets of San Francisco. For many months, they would not even release the names of the officers (until they were forced to by legal action).
In any other killing, the police do not sit for 12 months, especially when they know exactly who it was who did the killing.
Can you explain these discrepancies, you ignorant piece of shit bootlicker?

The cops have not been punished because they did not do anything wrong. Second, if you think before you speak, you would realize there is an ongoing civil case, and as you know nobody is going to talk about the case while it is pending. Jeese are you and idiot?
Lastly, the City will pay nothing on this case because there is no merit. Do you really think she will get money..LOL

Excuse me? I just got done saying that we're still in the "investigation" phase of SFPD internal affairs. it wont even be later in this summer when the so-called OCC releases their recommendations. They were withholding information, arresting witnesses, intimidating 20-year-old women and all the rest the very night it happened ... not when the civil suit was filed. So, quit with the disinformation, you fucking spineless bootlicker.
We do not pay the police to murder our friends and family and then act like the gestapo about it afterwards. If thats the kind of government you want, get the fuck out of my country and go join the Taliban where you will fit in. You make me sick.

What the fuck are you talking about? you make no sense.
Maybe you just don't know anything about the case and that's why you are ignorantly spouting off?
As has been stated repeatedly on this site and these comments, you cannot say that these cops did nothing wrong --- the police haven't determined it yet. It is still under investigation. They *might* have, they *might not* have (of course, i think we know the answer when 8 cops have to shoot one guy to death as they repeatedly do when presented with non-threatening mental health calls).
You can say that you think they are not guilty without knowing any of the facts of the case (unless you work for SFPD internal affairs in which case you are violating the confidentiality required in your job).
The facts are: 1 year later, the police still won't say a word about it to anyone. Besides the original misinformation fed to the media, which was later proven incorrect. Like I said, in any other case where you have a murder and you know how pulled the trigger, it doesn't take 12 months to get one tiny shred of information about what happened. Unless the murderers are cops.

hey everyone
the anger and frustration and helplessness jumps out of the comments i have read. I think some of the criticisms made toward the 'anti-cop' commenters make sense. there is adefinate sense of blinkering toward events which indynews reports but likewise on the other spectrum of things. to take an absolute out and out anti-cop stance is not particularily helpful but constantly questioning its behaviour is. the 'pro-cop' attitude that comes across here is absolutely blind a very old fashioned view that appears to give omnipotence to those in uniform and that very view is what allows cops to shoot soemone who from what I can make out had been recognised as someone who was suffering from a mental illness. it is always easier to brush off people as being scum when they fit the accepted image of what "scum" is. there's seems to be this opinion coming from some comments that those who commit crime are somehow unhuman while those who are meant to police the country are above human definately above the law themselves. all fo this jsut depresses me both sides must constantly question themselves and the information they are given, left and right. and really retorting with comments on people's looks jsut instantly destroys and argument. throwing insults at each other makes the important points being made into shit. have you ever witnessed ian paisley belching childish insults at his politial opponents..this page was pretty reminiscent of one of his rants anyway let me know what you think...and be respectful.

I am appalled by the virulence of the debate that followed our PEACEFUL rally on the 1rst yr anniversary of my son's death. Some of you took the time and interest to read its purpose: celebrate our lost one's lives, honor their families and give each other support. Not a political demonstration, but rather a HEALING event among families, friends and supporters of justice4idriss.
If you cared to listen when I spoke, my message was essentially meant to confort, nurture, and foster communal healing. I specifically extended the healing prayer to the 9 officers who slaughtered my Idriss, including their families, wives and children. Our message of peace and pursuit of progressive solutions was inclusive of SFPD. I happen to know personally very caring, outstanding officers who go way beyond the call of duty to serve, protect, and keep ALL OF US, left or right, in optimal safety.
For the record, the "baboon" on welfare was a 4.0 college student, and a hard worker, as well as a tutor and mentor to many.
Furthermore, I believe it has been published ENOUGH through community and corporate press that the city can stick their money where the sun don't shine: they CANNOT soothe the horror with money! I am an old woman, with no material necessities, carry no interest in exonerating my only child's memory, since he was respected and loved by his community. The only motivation I have to pursue our action for justice is to be instrumental in bringing forth much needed, healthy changes. If there was a retribution, my will reflects that it will be refueled in its totality, minus attorney's fees, into Ella Baker Center and October 22 against Police Brutality. Just trying to remind a few bad apples that slavery was abolished 2 centuries ago, that the Civil Right Movement was born more than 4 decades ago...Maybe some believe it never really happened, alike Aushwitz, Buchenval, Dachau...
Let's concentrate on healing together, and pray that no one will get hurt in the process, mesha.

I often commend, in my functions as the director of 2 domestic violence shelters ans a homeless shelter, the outstanding officers who respond humanely and sensitively to volatile situations, and have participated in training new recruits at SF Police Academy. In March 1999, I gave a 3 hour workshop to 35 deputies at 850 Bryant St, as program Manager of La Casa de las Madres, on comprehensive intervention when it comes to decompensated individuals, would they be drug users, persons affected by HIV Dementia, batterers in a fit of rage. The level of receptiveness and genuine interest was very moving and promissing.
I fondly remember Officer Butler, Western Station, getting involved with kids at risk and shooting baskets with our youth at Duboce Park, right when he was getting off duty, day after day; my son could not wait to get out of French American International School in the afternoon to go and play with the guy...Those are the king of officers that we desperately need to see on the street. I will not bow my head to the rampid, increasing brutalisation and criminilization of our African American community, or pledge alliance to the officers who savagely brutalized our Bay View kids on Martin Luther King's Day. Call me crazy!
Mesha, Idriss Stelley's mom.

Idriss was a fucking coward!! He used the cops to commit suicide.
This is known across America as "Cop assisted suicide".
His mom is to blame@!!!
FUCK YOU ALL!

This stelly guy was fucking crazy. He was fucking high, no billyclubs or mace had any effect on him, yet with his homemade manrikigusari, he slashed and cut a cops belly! FUCK! Lucky it wasnt the cops eye! Can I slash your eyes with a sharp 3 inch blade? Let me swing some nunchucks at you with a blade at the end. Can i slash your eyeballs? Will it hurt? YOU dumbfuck! Stelly intended to fucksomeone up real bad!
Who are you, and why do you care enough about this case to post repeatedly about it? What's your personal connection/motivation? What are you getting out of this?
Who are you, and why do you care enough about this to put so much time into it?
Dear "Q",
I guess that you failed to read my statements for the past 12 months that the city CANNOT pay me for my only child's slaughter. Minus attorney's fees, I want any eventual retribution to be refueled in its totality into supporting Ella Baker Center and October 22 against Police Brutality. In the sake of the healing that we so desperately need in our city, I might also earmark some of the retribution to the SF Police Fund, towards sensitivity and crisis intervention training. I forgive the 9 officers who carelessly assassinated my son, needless to say, I will make sure that they, as well as the entire SFPD, will be scrutinized for quality assurance and accountability. Several mental health professionals from various Acute Diversion Units within the Progress Foundationm have let me know that they observe a substantial improvement in police response when called for crisis intervention w/ their patients. The tragedies of Idriss Stelley, Gregory Hooper and Richard Tims'death, in spite of the shock and horror of our grieving families, have not been in vain. Let's concentrate on healing and solutions, inastead of endessly engaging in virulent controversy. I will include you in my prayers, mesha, Idriss'mom.

Would you care to elaborate on the blame I should carry? Should I be psychic and have foreseen that I should have stood by Idriss in that theater and shield his body w/ mine? That he was going to be frightened, confused and decompensate into his first psychotic episode? Should have I thrown popcorn at the 9 officers for a laugh instead of a kill? Please explain. W/ mild anticipation and thanking you for your outstanding compassion, Idriss' mom.

cops and robbers, cowboys and indians whats the fucking difference illegal or legal a few bad people decide to put the law into their own hands despite having a badge or not, to be or not to be to do or not to do, abuse or to not. The bottom line is to screen these son of a bitch pigs better before handing then the right to kill. look up their bully record from their elementary years ask peers how many ass kickings they done back then. People do not change as easy as you think. These criminals are directing their career to coincide with what they like to do. Beat people up and brutalize the public. Screen out the assholes and profilers and jeoulous and rapeing and murderous pigs with the badges who "Do need stinkin badges".
I challenge one of you defenders of the "menally ill" to answer what you would do if a grown man attacked you with a 2 inch blade. As a grown man mysef, I am sure that you could kill somebody. Mentally ill perp or not, a police officer should kill if necessary in order to go home at the end of the day. Go ahead and tell me what you would do if a grown man attacked you with a knife.
Idriss wanted to kill himself. His brain is deseased. He attached a small knife that had a 3 inch blade and attached it to a heavy Hells Angels type of chain which was 36 inches long. If this is such a teenie weenie harmless knife, let me whip that 36" weapon at your juggler vein and your eyes. Let's see how harmless it is. Shit, a whipping a chain itself is quite deadly. Attach a 3 " blade at the end and it becomes even deadlier. Oh, but dont tell the media, they still think the knife is plastic!
Get the facts.
Get the facts.
Yes he was a human being, and he made poor human being decisions that night.
He could have chose not to smoke in the theater.
He could have chose not to start a fight with a movie-goer.
He could have chose not to scare the people in the theater so bad that they left (prior to police).
He could have chose not to scare his girlfriend so bad that SHE called the police and said that he had a GUN (why?).
He could have chose to comply with the Officers commands.
He could have chose to drop the knife.
He could have chose not to slash the Officers chest.
He could have chose to comply after being hit with the batons and sprayed.
He could have chose to take his medications.
Unfotunately human beings do die, and sometimes it is their own fault an nobody elses.
He could have chose not to smoke in the theater.
