¡SOMOS UNO! WE ARE ONE AGAINST WAR!

San Diego and Tijuana peace activists announce “We Are One,” a summer solstice cross border concert for peace. The event will occur on June 21st, the day of the Summer Solstice, at Border Field State Park in San Diego and Playas de Tijuana. Music from stages on each side of the fence that separates our two countries will freely cross the border for twelve hours in ONE united voice for peace. The bands will be able to be seen and heard on both sides of the fence, and will alternate throughout the day and evening.

Bands to perform include: Emaue, Herb N Root, Organix, Ohtli, Samadhi, The Able Minded Poets, Kung-Fu Monkeys, Natural, Ambiente, Mexican Pride, Chameleon, Karmantra, Glugan, Aquadelfin, Flujo, Super Sonic Samba School. Dj's: Max,Speak, Dimention, Swan-E and Ska-Tea.

As the US and its allies talk of expanding the “war on terrorism” into countries across the globe, people on both sides of the US-Mexican border will join together, despite the militarized border that physically divides us, in a bi-national music festival for peace.

With the continued militarization of the Mexico/US border and increasing US military involvement in sovereign countries, it is crucial that a multinational voice comes forward to resist this war. The United States government continues to ignore the role of the United States and its allies in the creation of poverty and repression, which contribute to terrorism. Bush uses the “war on terrorism” as a green light to push his political agenda disregarding civil and human rights around the globe. As corporate globalization increases economic ties between countries, the people of the San Diego-Tijuana region are coming together to reject Bush’s global militarization and celebrate our common desire for a world with peace and justice.

The San Diego Coalition for Peace and Justice formed in September of 2001 to actively promote peace and oppose military violence. Since September 11, the SDCFPJ has sponsored teach-ins, vigils, and demonstrations aimed at opposing the repeal of civil and human rights, and ending the use of military force by the United States. The coalition continues to speak to these issues as well as other concerns affecting social justice in the San Diego region.
