by Dan Roberts (outfarpress [at] saber.net)
A 30 minute review of international news and opinions recorded from a shortwave radio. 2 files- broadcast-13.7MB & quick/streaming-3.4MB. With times and freqs for listening at home. Free to rebroadcast upon notification. Spain, Germany, Netherlands, China, and Cuba
Dear Radio Friend,
The latest Shortwave Report (May 31) is up at the website http://www.outfarpress.com/outfarpress/shortwave.shtml in both broadcast quality 13.7MB) and quickdownload or streaming form (3.4MB) (29:55) It's free to rebroadcast, please notify me if you're airing it and haven't notified me in the last month, please mention the website if you only air a portion. If you just want to listen and have a slow connection, try the streaming version- lower sound quality but good enough and way easier if you don't have a high-speed internet connection. If streaming is a problem because of your slow connection, download the smaller file- it takes 20 minutes or less, and will play swell in any mp3 player application (RealPlayer, Winamp, Quicktime, iTunes, etc) you have on your computer.
This program will be aired at 7pm PST this Friday evening at KZYX/Z Philo CA and you MIGHT be able to stream via http://www.kzyx.org/
There are several other streams that work quite well- http://members.cruzio.com/~frsc/ Freak Radio Santa Cruz streams this program on Friday at 5:35pm and on Monday at 9am.
Also check out LavaLamp Radio (Japan)- http://www.rinku.zaq.ne.jp/bkaec205/
streaming the SWR at Fri 10:30PM/ Sat 10:30AM PM/ Sun 10:30AM PST
This week's show features stories from Spanish National Radio, Radio Deutsche Welle, Radio Netherlands, China Radio International, and Radio Havana Cuba.
From Spain- reports on recent demonstrations and strikes in Argentina and Peru. In Nepal, government forces continue deadly battles with Maoist rebels, with the state of emergency extended. Heavy fighting has continued in Mogadishu, capital of Somalia.
From Germany- US and British forces bombed military installations in Iraq Tuesday. As tensions between India and Pakistan remain critical, a report from Human Rights Watch describes both countries laying huge numbers of anti-personnel mines along the border in Kashmir. Then a report stating that 12 years of global disarmament has been replaced with a new rearmament of high-tech conventional weapons, with the US leading the pack.
From Netherlands- a review of the recent Amnesty International report that many countries have suppressed political opponents and undermined human rights in the wake of the 9/11 attacks.
From China- China wants a ruling in the WTO about the legality of US steel tariffs. Then a curious story on the liberalization of sex and sex education in China.
From Cuba- a press report and an opinion piece from Radio Havana Cuba. The election of a new president in Columbia is the topic of this Latin American press review. Then a viewpoint on the current violence against human rights workers in Guatemala.
All that plus times and frequencies for listening at home. I hope you'll listen and air this if you're connected with a radio station.
I am still wondering how to get financially compensated for the 25 hours I put into this program weekly- any ideas are appreciated. Any stations rebroadcasting this (or listeners) are welcome to donate for production costs. You can do so through the website. Many thanks to those that have donated! No Guilt!
