MST is suffering a big wave of oppression by the government and the "justice"

At the extreme west from São Paulo, in an area called Pontal do Paranapanema a conspiracy against the MST (landless movement from Brasil) and for the wealth of farmers from the area has take place. This area if full of unproductive lands which are already 'public lands', this means it belongs to the government to do whatever they want, or better, whatever the constitution says that they should do with it. In Brasil the constitution says that any unproductive land has to be given to Agrarian Reform and pass to families without land. Unfortunately this is not what really happens. In Pontal do Paranapanema, farmers knowing as 'grilheiros' are using this land to their own production. They are illegally planting there and getting lots of money from it. Families from MST are fighting for their rights in that area for years. They squatted a piece of land there and now are calling for what the constitution says it their right, they are calling for Agrarian Reform.
Here is where the conspiracy began. Besides other ways to repress the MST (police violence, violence from the farmers and corporate media), now the government and also the "justice" is using other ways to do it. Last Thursday (05-23) the Judge Athis de Araújo Oliveira from Teodoro Sampaio (Major City from the area) called for the prison of 13 people from MST, 6 of them are already arrest. This people has been accused of crimes, such as "blocking the agrarian reform process", also accused of "forming gangues"(formação de quadrilhas), robbery etc.
The charge of "blocking the agrarian reform process" was set because of confrontations between the MST and MAST. MAST is a movement created by the government, Movement of the Landless Farmers (Movimento dos Agricultores Sem Terra). This movement wants the same land that the MST is fighting for. The deal is that: the MST has ask for this land years ago and that are other lands in the area which could been give to MAST by the government and what would also avoid all these problems between MAST and the MST. But the government seems not to see that and they prefer to let MST and MAST fight for the same land. Another detail is that the other lands (that the government seems not to see) are been illegally use by farmers for their own production.
Another part of this conspiracy is what is happening with a man, who is one of the co-ordenator of the movement at that area, José Rainha Jr who also has his name in the list set by the Judge. Zé Rainha has been used several times by the government as an example, to punish the movement. He was once accused of murder and found innocent. He also was in jail for 23 days and released last Saturday (05/18) where he was accused of carrying an illegal weapon. After the judge has asked for his prison on last Thursday, the police could not find him and now the police are called him as "fugitive". On Friday (05-24) he was supposed to testify on Court as a victim, against the farmer Roberto Junqueira who shot him on his back and was catch in the act. But he could not do it otherwise he would be arrest in court.
The situation in Pontal do Paranapanema is really delicate. The lawyers from MST said that mostly of the people there has some connection with farmers who has interesting in these lands (or family connection or business), so no one wants to cooperate. To get a copy of the charges that the 13 people from MST received, they had to threaten them, saying they would make a complain against them to the OAB (the Order of Lawyers from Brasil). Because they just didn't want to give to the lawyer copies of these documents. The MST asked yesterday (05-24) a meeting with the Governor from São Paulo for this Monday to expose the situation there. And the lawyers will ask the judge to drop the chargers against the 13 people, probably on Monday (is hard for them to do any work because of the non-cooperation of the people in Teodoro Sampaio).
