Second generation Dot.coms are working for the community and bringing the people of San Francisco Bay Together
http://WWW.UPOST.ORG provides the San Francisco Bay Area community with an online billboard that helps communities meet their growing need to facilitate the exchange of valuable information. Founded in November 2001 by Rafael Soultanov and Igor Bronshteyn the masterminds behind the website have had 188,558 visitors to their site just this February of 2002, and have almost doubled that this March.

Much like a huge billboard that can be seen on a personal computer, users are being given an option to search listings for useful info, or publish, modify, or delete their posts through email notification. This is a kind of "self-service" posting, which has proven to be a very convenient tool for people who use the board. There are no strings attached, no contracts or commitments, and, complete anonymity if desired.

People who've visited the site have claimed that they find what they are looking for, it's very easy to use, convenient to navigate, and technically up to date though the site has only been online for a short while. There are a number of categories where anyone can post, locate or read about; community events, personal thoughts, local activities, resumes, jobs, volunteers, babysitters, and even online dating. Perhaps, due to the current economic situation, so far the most abundant reason people visit the site is to get leads for jobs. In particular, Computer and Healthcare jobs are the most prevalent.

The site is updated daily to ensure that it is easy to use, pleasing on the eye, well organized and maintains the highest standards possible for the community. Future developments include keeping the site banner and pop-up ad free, photo uploading, HTML support, and "e-mail to a friend".

Ultimately, Upost.org's major goal is to provide a competitive service to a well-established industry, which has stalled lately due to the unchallenged environment in which it operates. Already, since Upost has come on-line, other competitors of similar sites that plan to charge customers for posting haven’t yet done so. In essence, only competition can bring this type of benefit to the community. Igor and Rafael stated, “The company goal is truly targeted at providing an essential service to benefit the people of the San Francisco Bay Area community. We run on a simple scale with a small budget. We started out meeting in local coffee shops, and then growing into a small office located in the Inner Sunset District. There aren’t any Herman-Miller chairs, fancy computers, secretaries or any other unnecessary staff. It’s a new era start-up that has fun and gives back to a community they love.”
