isn't eating animals much worse? There is much less of a purpose behind it, and there are many many more livestock animals kept for food purposes, and they're treated worse because the care of lab animals is more closely monitored.
It is clear that much less experimentation on animals than is currently done is necessary. Some of it may be - but causing animals to suffer for cosmetics is ridiculous.
