Hundreds of marchers flooded the downtown streets of Northwest Portland...
Hundreds of marchers flooded the downtown streets of Northwest Portland on Wednesday, May 1st, as part of a May Day demonstration honoring the history of labor struggles throughout the world and the rights of undocumented immigrants working in the United States today. Although the origin of May Day goes back to the Chicago strike of 1886 and the fight for the eight-hour workday, here in Portland, Oregon it also marks an annual celebration of the First Amendment and a vociferous reassertment of the Constitutional right to peacefully assemble in the streets.
