Zionism is influential only insofar as it further's aims of interest groups that are in the ascendancy and who make common cause with it as a historical force. Bush is not a Zionist. I doubt that his policy is greatly shaped by their aims alone without some reference to the Carlyle Group. Take one step back from the news and look at the slow river of history since Bush was sworn in as the un-elected President. Evidently the objective is to restore the Raj and Palestine will have a place in that setting sun even if it is only Gaza.
