What is Socialism?
A discussion about Socialism and why we need it
There are many major problems in the world today. In America the average
worker works harder and gets no more than twenty-five years ago thanks to
a series of political and economic attacks; the US seems headed into a
permanent war with much of the rest of the world; and globally poverty is
rampant, the threat of economic crises is present permanently and
everywhere, and environmental destruction threatens the future of all of
humanity. The question of where these problems come from, and what can
be done about them, is incredibly important.
For over 150 years, there have been people who say: The problem is that
a tiny elite owns the fields, factories, and other things that we need to
produce the necessities of life. Their priorities determine who gets
what; their competition leads to war and economic crisis. The economic
and social system this creates can only be reformed so far - a
fundamental change must be made. We need Socialism - a system where
ordinary people control the economy democratically, running it to satisfy
human needs instead of for profits. Join us to discuss these ideas and
the world today.
