Eureka, California – In light of recent statements made by Pacific Lumber management to the Humboldt County Board of Supervisors, North Coast Earth First! activists are expressing outrage at being labeled “eco-terrorists”. Activists feel that such accusations are being raised as an attempt to obscure the actual harm that MAXXAM/Pacific Lumber is causing to the forests, watersheds and communities of California’s North Coast.

North Coast Earth First! Refutes “Eco-terrorist” Label
Regarding Robert Manne’s comments to the Humboldt County Board of Supervisors.
Eureka, California – In light of recent statements made by Pacific Lumber management to the Humboldt County Board of Supervisors, North Coast Earth First! activists are expressing outrage at being labeled “eco-terrorists”. Activists feel that such accusations are being raised as an attempt to obscure the actual harm that MAXXAM/Pacific Lumber is causing to the forests, watersheds and communities of California’s North Coast.
North Coast Earth First! has affirmed its continued adherence to a strict non-violence code. In response to Pacific Lumber Company’s recent allegation of terrorism, organizer, Josh Brown stated, “North Coast Earth First! has an impeccable fifteen year record of non-violence. In fact, those who have committed violence have been employees of MAXXAM/Pacific Lumber and the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Department and have done so against non-violent
activists.”
Regarding PL’s irresponsible and unfounded labeling of non-violent activists as terrorists, NCEF! activist Sara March stated, “It is a despicable exploitation of tragedy to try to make a comparison between those who would take thousands of human lives and individuals sitting peacefully in trees.”
Since the days of Judi Bari, North Coast Earth First! has gone to great lengths to promote a sustainable timber industry on the North Coast, whereas PL’s consistent policy of over-cutting without regard for their neighbors,
employees, or ecosystems has resulted in the loss of jobs and massive watershed destruction.
Many feel that this recent plea by PL directly contradicts the intentions of the Forest Peace Alliance. “I attended a Forest Peace Alliance event and felt it had the potential to open dialogue in an effort to prevent another tragedy like the death of David Chain, but I certainly don’t feel like I can have effective dialogue with people who have labeled me an eco-terrorist.” – Ash, NCEF! EarthFirsters, please take a science class. I know you were probably trained in the State-run government schools and are therefor almost brain-dead, but please read some alternative books (you could start with Cato Institute web site and their books). You guys are misinformed and being used by the would-be Kings of the World (Gores and Clinton's) who are using environmental issues to steal our land, our hard-earned paychecks, our kids, etc. You see, the Clinton's and Gore's don't know how to do real work (like Bill Gates), so they have to find more and more ways to steal our money (the ones that know how to work). And they are desperate now, so they are using the environment, with their Nazi tactics, to get our money - plain and simple! And you poor guys are being used by them. Wake up! Read a book! Use your rational, reasoning abilities and don't let them use you.

Well, I didn't go to a state-run college; I went to a "liberal arts" college, and took plenty of science classes.
What I found out was that my degree doesn't amount to a hill of beans, because I'm not saying what the government and the corporations want to hear.
Sure, the corporations use our efforts to jack up the prices of their lumber...we can't really do anything about that, and we're definitely not going to stop trying to save Old Growth trees and bring about sustainable forestry.
You don't need a doctorate to see the devastating effects of liquidation logging, and you don't have to be a genius to understand the need for sustainable forestry, and sustainable living, on all fronts.
We live in a world gone mad, and we have managed to achieve some level of sanity, although you have to be a little off to even get into a vehicle, really. It's the society that we live in that drives us to do things that we wouldn't normally do, necessarily, like live in a tree for two years. We maintain our non-violence, though, because we believe in the power of Love, which is where non-violence stems from. It's the determination to break some of the spells of modern society, through communication and putting our bodies in the way of the destruction of Life.
The "war on terrorism" is being used to wage wars, imprison innocent people, violate people''s constitutional, civil, and human rights, in the same way that McCarthyism and Nazism did, and we have to wake people up to these parallels, in order to break the spell.
When will people wake up? I hope it's soon...
War IS terrorism, and what Maxxam and the US government are doing now is truly terrible...
We have to start moving our bodies, minds, and spirits in more conscious ways...it all starts with the determination to do better.
Follow it up with conscious action and a 100% dedication to bringing peace to this world, through non-violent direct action.
It's time to re-evolve....
