Jenin: Indymedia Reporter Views Carnage
The Jenin Denial Stories keep pouring in ... but the IDF knows they have gone too far this time. They know that underneath all that rubble is the next piece of evidence in their war crimes trials.
Jenin update: 4/16 2:30 pm
Myself and Andreas from Sweden just got back from the camp from another trip in this morning with a red Crescent volunteer. The soldiers have relaxed there hold on the camp even more, and today there were many journalists running around, and a couple of UN aid trucks. At about 1pm though the soldiers drove throught calling on the loudspeaker for everyone to go back in their houses. Most people actually did…they are terrified of the IDF…some remained out though..showing the journalists around, and ducking into a building whenever they heard the tanks or apc’s coming. We mostly did the same because the Red Crescent volunteer group we are spending time with are particularly disliked by the Israelis. The resistance culture was and is tremendously strong in the camp, with martyrs pictures even on the hospital corridors walls.
It may be difficult to interprethe pictures, all that open area. But try to imagine in the place of that open area, densely paced village with houses two to three stories high, and packed together with streets so narrow only very few could even pass a car. Most were just narrow footpaths. That area is now completely flattened.
We were taken to photograph many more martyrs today..i unfortunately even stepped on/in one. Lot’s of body parts, and crushed laying around..a foot, or a hand mioghtbe recognizable, but mostly the people are recognized by the damp and discolored clothes sticking out of the ground..mostly connected to just bit’s of tissue and bone. Difficult to photograph.

"Of all the fighters in the West Bank we were the best prepared," he says. "We started working on our plan: to trap the invading soldiers and blow them up from the moment the Israeli tanks pulled out of Jenin last month."
Omar and other "engineers" made hundreds of explosive devices and carefully chose their locations.
"We had more than 50 houses booby-trapped around the camp. We chose old and empty buildings and the houses of men who were wanted by Israel because we knew the soldiers would search for them," he said.
"We cut off lengths of mains water pipes and packed them with explosives and nails. Then we placed them about four metres apart throughout the houses--in cupboards, under sinks, in sofas."

The Palestinians should do all they can to ensure that people like Omar do not dwell and work among them. He and those who think like him are putting many innocent people in danger
The excuse that "there was resistance" is not an excuse. If you come into a non-Israeli city with tanks and guns ablazing, you better be ready to die. Because this isnt a GAME, you are destroying people's lives with your little "incursion" ... dont be stupid.
No. People like the IDF need to go. They are the ones that are not in their homes. Everyone has a right to defend their home. Everyone. If you come to my house in aggression, I will kill you. The Palestinians have the same right.
Stop muttering all the things you keep hearing in the news, and think for yourself -- what is the meaning of terrorism? What is the difference between a terrorist and a freedom fighter? Why do you focus on the Israeli deaths from the horrible, awful suicide bombers, when the numbers of deaths they have inflicted is still one-third the number of Palestinian deaths? If it's really supposed to be an eye for an eye, the Israelis have a few more eyes to give up, and is that what you want?
Are you insane? Do you really believe that civilians are just supposed to passively allow a heavily armed foreign military to come and invade their little camp and round up, interrogate and humiliate everyone, kill people who get "caught in the crossfire" (as the IDF likes to explain)?
Would you simply curl up if a foreign invader came into your neighborhood and wanted to round up all the males in your family? How would you feel about that?
Are you suggesting that the Palestinians don't have the right to defend themselves from this gross violation of human dignity and the destruction of their homes and families?
Are you insane?
How can anyone think that a well trained military with tanks, Cobra gunships, armored bulldozers, F16s, all with an unlimited supply of bullets, rockets and bombs, against a civilians army with nothing but rocks and guns could be anything but a massacre?
The Palestinian freedom fighters do not have much a choice. They can fight and die or live the rest of their lives under a brutal, inhumane, humiliating, oppressive occupation.
For the past two weeks the Israelis have had a massive cover-up operation of their massacre. Their repeated lies that reporters and all humanitarian assistance have been kept out of the area only for their own protections is a joke. The repeated IDF lies that civilians are never targeted is also a joke.
Sadly, many warmongering right-wing Jews are making excuses for the massacres. Worldwide, all Jews have lost the moral high ground and also the compassion formerly given them because of their holocaust.
That American taxpayers will pay the tab for this butchery is deplorable.
