Main Indymedia Server Experiencing Technical Difficulties

The Madison Independent Media Center website is hosted on a server named "stallman" that is located in Seattle, site of the original IMC website in 1999. Many of the more than seventy local IMCs are hosted at this location, while others are served elsewhere. This situation is largely a result of the explosive growth of the Indymedia network in the last two years.


This server is currently experiencing technical difficulties related to the publish function, preventing the publishing of articles or multimedia files on the open newswire. This is affecting all IMC websites on stallman. IMCs not affected include Urbana-Champaign, San Francisco Bay Area, and St. Louis, among others. If you have news, commentary, or multimedia you wish to report, please return to the Madison IMC regularly and hold on to the information for publishing after the technical problems are solved.


On of the next steps the Indymedia network looks to take is greater decentralization of technical support, in which sites are served separately.
