2/20/02 National Day of Solidarity w/ Muslim, Arab and So. Asian Immigrants

More than 30 actions were held across the country February 20 to intensify the movement of resistance to attacks on Muslim, Arabs and South Asians. Hundreds of Muslims, Arabs and South Asians remain in prison without charges or minor visa violations. Raids on homes, mosques and Muslim organizations have recently intensified.

On February 20, a diverse crowd 90 people gathered in front of the Federal building in San Francisco. Carrying blue triangles representing the disappeared, they demanded an end to the illegal imprisonment, harrassment and racial profiling of this community. The blue triangle was the symbol used by the Nazis to mark and marginalize immigrants in Germany. Today that symbol is used as a sign of solidarity and opposition to government repression. February 20 represents the first step in a nationwide movement.

On April 27 there will be a regional conference in Hayward to plan further actions in the Bay Area. And in Detroit on May 18-19 there will be a national summit to plan resistance on a national level.
