BC Students Occupy to DEFEAT DE-REGULATION

by Che415 (reducetuition [at] hotmail.com)
BC Students Occupy UBC Administrative Offices
Over three hundred students at the University of British Columbia participated in a mass demonstration on UBC campus just hours ago (on Wednesday, March 13) to protest BC premier Gordon Campbell's plans to deregulate all tuition fees in every program throughout BC.

Shortly before the demo, fifteen students occupied the administration offices. When security attempted to evict the fifteen occupiers, the three hundred-strong demo decided to join the occupation and held a rally inside the administration building. Almost one hundred UBC students remain inside and are preparing to lock-down for the night to meet the UBC Board of Governors who are scheduled to meet in the administration building Thursday morning at 8:30am for the first time since Campbell announced his deregulation plans. More students are also expected to turn up for a solidarity demo with the occupiers.

Incidentally, the Campbell Liberals have removed labour representation from the board, replacing them instead with CEOs and corporate executives who are
keen to raise fees.

PLEASE SEND MESSAGES OF SUPPORT AND SOLIDARITY TO THE UBC OCCUPIERS WHO ARE
FIGHTING TO KEEP EDUCATION ACCESSIBLE FOR ALL STUDENTS.
