AGAINST THE PLAN HYDROLOGIC NATIONAL AGAINST THE PRIVATISATION OF WATER
The Spanish government's hydric plan consists of building about 40 dams in al¡ of Spain and of creating a second river next to the Ebre. This would bring water supplies to the South and to Catalunya, which would mainly make benefit to Spanish industry and tourism.
According to the self-proclaimed decision of the makers of WTO agreements, water is a rare good. Of course according to their logic again, this rarity is not due to the careless use of the world's natural resources by the industrial North.
Looking at the problems from their castles, the water lords have agreed which solutions they will impose to the world. With their invincible capitalist rules of economy, they are about to go after what ¡s left of the water in the world.
Water ¡s about to be privatised and Plan Hydrologic National ¡s just a part of this global robbery. By privatisation, ft means that companies supported by WTO, the World Bank, the IMF and the national governments Mil be buying the river water, the rain water and the spring water.
While in some counties people are still not realising how "lucky" they are with ongoing privatisation progress, in the other counties the marketing of water ¡s already causing wars. Of course the poor counties are always more exploited but in the end everybody in the planet ¡s affected by the robbery of such an essential resource as water ¡s.
The privatisation of water ¡s causing wars, mass protests and growing repression already in many counties in the world. Here we can speak about South Africa, Ghana, Philippines, Argentina, Haiti, New Zealand, Australia, India and many more, but we will speak more about Bolivian example.
In Cochabamba, Bolivia, prices rose around 400% after privatisation of Water in, the year 2000. Water became more expensive than food and lodging, therefore the local people could not afford to pay the paces of water, so they started whit strikes and blockades which went on for months. Meanwhile Bechtel (U.S. company mainly owning Bolivian water resources) accused directly Bolivia at the WTO tribunal for losing profits caused by riots. With the help of the Structural agreement programs of the IMF, the company forced one of the poorest counties in latin America to continue the privatisation of Is water resources.
All over the world, including Europe, the mayor companies are on their way to .take aver and over more territory with this kind of exploitation.
In Catalunya water ¡s owned by AGBAR. This ¡s a company that brags about Ks %social" projects in almost al¡ of Latin America, a territory where the water resources are extremely exploited.
The EU is very proud of its 'clever social trading' and of its rejection of US type of 'whip' capitalism. In reality, the EU is constructing strong economical power which will only benefit to its leaders by opening relationships with important capitalist powers of the other parts of the world and by kicking out everything that goes against d. This is how economical efficiency works. This is why the E.U. and the Spanish national government are decisive to force the Plan Hydrologic National.
