Weld Valley Update - Forest protests enter sixteenth day

Community Action in the Weld Valley, Tasmania has entered the sixteenth day of stop work. The Camp's aim has been to highlight the roading and bridging plans for this spectacular valley, which will allow the logging of its tall
forested slopes. The action has recieved support from across the state as well as around the globe. Forest Activists send their thanks for all the wonderful messages and help offered.

Friday, activists spread the action to a nearby old growth logging coupe in the Picton Valley. Halting work and talking to workers. The clearfelling operation was inspected and documented as part of 'bearing witness' to the
industrial juggernaut that is consuming our forest ecosystems. The action was aimed to pass a message on to Forestry that we are here and are prepared to act.

A solidarity action was held in the foyer of Forestry Tasmania's head office. in amongst the artifically created 'rainforest'. Around Ten activists hosted a 'mourning tea' party with songs and music. As well as delivering their message to protect the Weld Valley. Both action were
carried out with no arrests.

On the weekend the camp hosted another Community Open day and Barbecue. Over 50 people attended and trips to the river were run to show the damage which has already occured to this ancient river system.

This weekend the camp has expanded to the Fungaia Forest festival, where a mock blocade will be established to train and empower others to help defend our forests. All are welcome.

The Weld campaign still needs your help, messages of support, donations of time , money or equipment are essential to help keep the the struggle going. Please think about what you can do.

For the forests,

Adam Burling
