California Faculty Association Protest Against Neo-Liberal Chancellor Reed

by workerstruggle
Saturday's protest by the CFA against the corporate policies of CSU Chancellor Reed and support for Marriott hotel workers hit by anti-union policies after voting in 1996 to organize with the Hotel Employees and Restaurant Employees Local #2 was highly successful!
A large contingent of Faculty and Staff, represented by the California Faculty Association and Students of the California University system joined forces with members of the Hotel Employees and Restaurant Employees Local #2 at the Marriott Hotel where the American Council of Education convention was being held, to express their outrage at the effects capitalist globalisation have had on their livelihoods and education. More specifically, it was directed at CSU Chancellor Reed's catering to corporate hegemony through his contemptable behavior toward CSU faculty, staff and students and favoritism toward administration. His appearance at the American Council of Education, which showed a similar contempt by choosing a virulently anti-labor hotel chain as its convention site, underscored his elitist attitude and why he refuses to negotiate with CFA in good faith.

The march and rally were very successful, as it forced the chancellor to delay his speech until after the demonstration was over.

Unless Chancellor Reed stops with his Marie Antoinette attitude and very soon, there is the real possibility of a CSU wide strike and/or other labor actions by CFA. Mr. Reed, your Reality Check is in the mail! It is suggested that you cash it immediately, or suffer the consequences of your contemptable, elitist attitudes. Like they said in that old T.V. commercial-you can pay us now, or pay us later!
