RAY TALIAFERRO SHOW
Monday - Friday: 1:00 AM - 5:00 AM
810 AM, SF

Monday January 28, 2002 1:00 a.m. – 5:00 a.m.
1:00 – 2:00 a.m.
Ray talked about the growing ground swell for the National Mad as Hell Day on November 5. One of our listeners, Matt Ager, has designed what will we one of many “slogans” for the day. To view Matt’s creative design, go to: http://home.pacbell.net/mattager/
Other slogans submitted by our audience:
Bush is only as strong as the weakest link in the Cheney of command
Bush cannot tell a lie from a Lay
Re-elect Gore
1000 points of light and we get the dim one
Don’t get Layed in the Bushes
Ray also talked about the global criticism of the Bush administration’s refusal to classify the Guantanamo Bay detainees as POWs. Rumsfeld insists that we are not at war. This stance is quite a departure from before.
2:00 – 3:00 a.m.
The conversation continued on the classification of the detainees, Powell’s insistence that the United States recognize the Geneva Convention and more Enron trouble.
3:00 – 4:00 a.m.
Bush will ask Congress to set aside at least $100 million for experimental programs aimed at getting single welfare mothers to marry. Ray and the callers discussed this “marriage proposal”. What other lengths with Bush go to in order to legislate morality?
4:00 – 5:00 a.m.
More comments on the aforementioned topics.

Tuesday January 29, 2002 1:00 a.m. – 5:00 a.m.
1:00 – 2:00 a.m.
Ray talked about the wife of former Enron CEO Kenneth Lay, who defended her husband on Monday, saying he was an ``honest, decent, moral'' man who did nothing wrong in the devastating collapse of the energy trading giant. Linda Lay said her husband, who quit as chairman and chief executive officer of Enron Corp.last week, had been grossly misunderstood and was victim of ``mass hysteria'' surrounding the biggest bankruptcy case in U.S. history. ``Nobody even knows what the truth is yet. The only thing I know, 100 percent for sure, is that my husband is an honest, decent, moral human being who would do absolutely nothing wrong. That I know 100 percent,'' she said.
U.S. Supreme Court Justice Anthony Kennedy and Laura Bush have created a program to teach students about "fundamental values and universal moral precepts." Do you see any hypocrisy? Ray wanted to know.
2:00 – 3:00 a.m.
The callers continued to discuss the amazing comments from Mrs. Linda Lay. Could she really believe the American public will buy her act?
3:00 – 4:00 a.m.
Ray talked about a Newsweek story about long, lost Neil Bush. What was he doing in Jidda, Saudi Arabia, last week? Officially, the president’s youngest brother was a keynote speaker at an international business forum. (Among the main backers of the event: the Saudi Binladin Construction Group and Prince Alwaleed bin Talal, the tycoon whose $10 million offer to help the victims of the World Trade Center attacks was rejected last fall by New York City Mayor Rudolph Giuliani.) With an audience filled with Saudi royals, Bush talked about the role of “public opinion” in shaping U.S. Mideast policy. But Bush’s main purpose wasn’t public-relations advice. The presidential sibling also had another agenda: recruiting Middle East investors for an educational-software firm that, industry sources say, may benefit enormously from the new $26.5 billion education bill signed by President George W. Bush. And speaking of the Bush family, Ray also talked about an Online Journal that recounts some of Bush Sr.’s comments on John Walker, Marin hottubbers and other news. To read the article in its entirety, go to:
http://onlinejournal.com/Commentary/Chin012902/chin012902.html
4:00 – 5:00 a.m.
More from the previous hours.

Wednesday January 30, 2002 1:00 a.m. – 5:00 a.m.
1:00 – 2:00 a.m.
Ray thought Bush’s State of the Union address was one of the worst he had ever heard. Bush seems very intent on finding a war for us to participate in, no matter what. “The state of our union has never been stronger” Ray strongly disagreed. We have been stronger. Also, Osama Bin Laden was not mentioned once. Why? He wants to be a commander in chief in the time of war. Why? Because as long as he can convince the American public that we need to be in war, his approval ratings soar.
3:00 – 4:00 a.m.
Ray talked about how important the need is to express ourselves to bring about change.
4:00 – 5:00 a.m.
More from the previous hours.

Thursday January 31, 2002 1:00 a.m. – 5:00 a.m.
1:00 – 2:00 a.m.
Don’t forget, this Friday is Poetry Night so either call in or email us with your favorite poem, either original or otherwise.
Presumably, we’re going to war, according to the message from yesterday’s State of the Union Address. Presumably, with countries that haven’t done anything to us. Last night Ray characterized Bush’s speech as the scariest State of the Union Address he has heard in his life. He is lining nations up for us to go bomb. Also of great interest, Bush personally asked Senate Majority Leader Tom Daschle Tuesday to limit the congressional investigation into the events of September 11. Why is the president and the vice president asking Daschle to curtail his investigations to find out what happened and why the national security failed?
2:00 – 3:00 a.m.
The conversation continued on the speech last night and the ramifications of such strong language. Is he starting World War III?
3:00 – 4:00 a.m.
Ray took on some of the callers about the declaration of war, the military budget and what the Bush administration knew and when did they know it.
4:00 – 5:00 a.m.
More from the previous three hours.

.

Wednesday January 23, 2002 1:00 a.m. – 5:00 a.m.
1:00 – 2:00 a.m.
The detainees in Guantanamo Bay have been receiving quite a bit of attention. The Bush administration maintains that the Geneva Convention does not apply to the treatment of the prisoners because we are technically not at war. Ray was so pleased that Rumsfeld and the rest finally came around to realizing what Ray has been saying all along. The attack on Sept. 11 was not an act of war; it was a criminal act. The civilian casualty count was also discussed. The Boston Globe reports that the Air Force and several other Defense Department agencies quietly have begun to investigate the cause and number of civilian casualties in Afghanistan, military officials say, despite past insistence from the Pentagon that no such reviews existed.
2:00 – 3:00 a.m.
With Bush ramping up the war against terror around the world, Nick Smith, a conservative Republican congressman who represents Michigan's southern tier, has introduced a bill to restore the draft for men between the ages of 18 and 22. The Universal Military Training and Service Act would "require the induction into the Armed Forces of young men registered under the Military Selective Service Act, and to authorize young women to volunteer, to receive basic military training and education for a period of up to one year." Ray and the callers discussed the possibility of a draft.
3:00 – 4:00 a.m.
When was the last time you heard Bush use the term “evil doers”? Evil is a religious term and by using it might mean we are involved in a Jihad. Why do you thing the Bush handlers have told him to back off of that term?
4:00 – 5:00 a.m.
Enron, of course, remains in the news. Bush is paying Lay back with 254 million-dollar tax gift. With 700 subsidiaries around the world, the Enron Corporation has not paid taxed 4 out of the last 5 years. Ray asked, rhetorically, if Enron was any different than the rest of corporate America.

Thursday January 24, 2002 1:00 a.m. – 5:00 a.m.
1:00 – 2:00 a.m.
Ray talked about a fascinating article by Robert Sheer in the L.A. Times about Bush and Enron. To see the article, go to:
http://www.latimes.com/news/opinion/commentary/la-000005500jan22.column?coll=la%2Dnews%2Dcomment%2Dopinions
The victim’s compensation funds were discussed as well. Do you feel the civilians who were killed in Afghanistan need to be compensated by the United States government?
2:00 – 3:00 a.m.
A caller suggested that we have a National Mad as Hell Day, possibly on November 5th. For that day, a list of major grievances in the form of a slogan was needed and our audience came up with some brilliant ones:
Remember the Enron
The incredible shrinking dollar
Lay of the Land
Don’t pee on my 401K
Enron-home of the crooked “E”
Where’s the peace?
3:00 – 4:00 a.m.
The Enronmental President
Remember Florida, make every vote count
A flag still waves, but this dog won’t wag
Don’t beat around the Bush, confront it
Two in the same bed Lay Bush
Selected, not elected
Pretzels, lies and videotape
The vote that lives in infamy – 5 to 4
Remember the Supremes
4:00 – 5:00 a.m.
Enronomics
Kenny, I shrunk the economy
Give him no more, save us from war
Unwiseguys
George and Kenny – dumb and dumber
Stop the war on terra – respect your mother
The House that oil built
Tired of being Bushwhacked

Friday January 25, 2002 1:00 a.m. – 5:00 a.m.
1:00 – 2:00 a.m.
Ray talked about how frustrated the American public is about the loss of civil rights, loss of freedoms, etc. They are anxiously counting down the clock to the National Mad as Hell Day. Here are some of the slogans submitted by our audience:
My grandparents voted in Florida and all I got was this stupid president
Where there’s a Bush, there’s a Lay
Feeling Bushed, Layed or Enroned? Send them back to Texas on Nov. 5
Up a Bush creek without a Cheney paddle
Legalize government
2:00 – 3:00 a.m.
Separate Bush and State
Wave the flag and wave Bush goodbye
Don’t shred on me
If the “E” in Enron tilts any further, it will look like a “W”
“I did not have relations with that woman, Mr. Lay”
3 justices for 1 injustice for all
Rub a dub dub- Let’s scrub the shrub
A Bush in hand can cause blindness
Got freedom?
Be careful for what you Bush for
Money for corruption and the pretzels are free
3:00 – 4:00 a.m.
Let’s strip cowboy of his boots and saddle
Time to uproot old Bushes
The #1 terrorist in the world now operates the White House
Enround democracy
Bush – The duke of oil
Invest this! (graphic of middle finger from Enron “E”)
Snub the Shrub
4:00 – 5:00 a.m.
No more fossil fools
Heil to the thief
Trim the Bushes
If a Bush falls in the White House, does it make a sound?
Enron – been Bushed again

SHOW
Monday January 14, 2002 1:00 a.m. – 5:00 a.m.
1:00 – 2:00 a.m.
Ray started the program by talking about the book, “Bin Laden, the forbidden truth”, written by Guillaume Dasquie and Jean-Charles Brisard, who Ray will have as his guests in the 4:00 o’clock hour. The book talks about the indisputable ties with the Bush administration, the Taliban, Saudi Arabia and oil. There are many articles written on the subject, one of the most informative can be found at http://tiger.berkeley.edu/sohrab/politics/taliban+us.html
2:00 – 3:00 a.m.
Enron continued to dominate as the top story of discussion as well as theories about George Bush choking and fainting on a pretzel.
3:00 – 4:00 a.m.
More on Enron, connections between George Bush and Kenneth Lay and “Pretzelgate”.
4:00 – 5:00 a.m.
Ray welcomed Guillaume Dasquie and Jean-Charles Brisard as his guests this morning. They are the co-authors of the book, “Bin Laden, the forbidden truth”. They talked about what led them to write such an explosive book and why Osama Bin Laden would want to fight against the United States. The two French authors also discussed the very important links to Saudi Arabia and why it is important to understand the support provided by the Muslim clerics in Saudi Arabia. Mr. Dasquie and Jean-Charles Brisard discussed the relationship developed with John O’Neill, the former FBI terrorist agent who resigned last August due to his frustration with the way the Bush administration was thwarting the investigation with Al Qaeda. They also talked about the strong evidence of secret meetings and the connection with Leili Helms and the Taliban.

Tuesday January 15, 2002 1:00 a.m. – 5:00 a.m.
1:00 – 2:00 a.m.
Ray thanked the listeners for all the email he has been receiving, especially for the program yesterday with the two authors of the book; Bin Laden: the forbidden truth. Ray commented that he has noticed he no longer receives emails upset when Ray cites oil as the main impetus behind this war. Is it now becoming conventional wisdom? Also, pretzelgate was discussed and speculated on.
2:00 – 3:00 a.m.
Much of the listening audience gets very up-in-arms and offended when Ray refers to Bush as a drug-addict. They insist that he only used to have a problem with alcohol. Ray insists that alcohol IS a drug and should be included in the same category. Ray is bothered by the fact that we have a drug addict as the leader of the free world.
3:00 – 4:00 a.m.
Pretzel stories abound.
4:00 – 5:00 a.m.
More pretzel stories.

Wednesday January 16, 2002 1:00 a.m. – 5:00 a.m.
1:00 – 2:00 a.m.
Ray talked about the newly released Fox opinion poll. According to the poll, only 49% of registered voters said they would "vote to re-elect President Bush". And in another poll conducted with 151 Ivy League professors, Bill Clinton was voted the best president in the last 40 years. George W. Bush came in with an unimpressive 0%. Is the tremendous approval he has been enjoying from the anti-terror war waning?
2:00 – 3:00 a.m.
Ray and the callers had a lively discussion about the state of the union. Now is the time to stay on our J-O-B.
3:00 – 4:00 a.m.
A caller made an interesting suggestion. If the Enron top executives are convicted for the terrible crimes they have committed, with George W. pardon them?
4:00 – 5:00 a.m.
A mixed conversation ensued, including more about Enron.

Thursday January 17, 2002 1:00 a.m. – 5:00 a.m.
1:00 – 2:00 a.m.
Ray talked about George Bush and the executive order he issued order barring union representation at United States attorneys' offices and at four other agencies in the Justice Department. The reason? The president cited security concerns. Ray believes that this country is going through the dark ages. How did we get to the point in this nation where unions could harm national security?
2:00 – 3:00 a.m.
The pretzel story just won’t die. Many of the callers continued to comment on the caper.
3:00 – 4:00 a.m.
Ray talked about the corporate welfare aspect of the free market economy.
4:00 – 5:00 a.m.
Four SLA figures have been arrested for the bank slaying in 1975. What do you remember about this tumultuous story that dominated the media in the seventies?

Friday January 18, 2002 1:00 a.m. – 5:00 a.m.
1:00 – 2:00 a.m.
Ray talked about a few recent Enron updates in the news this morning. Evidently, Enron is not as heartless as we once suspected they are selling the plants from the Enron offices to the employees at a discount. Also, reported in the New York Times, last year the energy giant dabbled into the possibility of selling sex videos over its network, creating a market in high- speed, or broadband, Internet service. As Mr. Van der Leun, the vice president for Internet ventures at the General Media Corporation which owns Penthouse magazine said, "If someone goes to porn," he said, "they're desperate."
2:00 – 3:00 a.m.
A breaking story out this morning reports that Saudi Arabia may ask the U.S. to leave. Citing a senior Saudi official, the Washington Post said senior Saudi rulers believe the United States has ``overstayed its welcome'' and its forces have become a political liability. The two governments never signed an agreement about their presence in the country. Though it has long been considered an intimate ally of the United States, Saudi Arabia is the only Persian Gulf nation with which the United States has no formal defense cooperation agreement.
3:00 – 4:00 a.m.
Ray and the callers continued to speculate on the very important ramifications of the new development in Saudi Arabia. If Saudi Arabia follows through with the plan to kick us out, will the United States be forced to go to war with this country? Ray considers this to be a distinct possibility. It should be noted that 15 of the 19 hijackers on Sept. 11 were from Saudi Arabia.
4:00 – 5:00 a.m.
The conversation continued on Saudi Arabia and the implications and our presence.

SHOW
Monday January 7, 2002 1:00 a.m. – 5:00 a.m.
1:00 – 2:00 a.m.
“Not over my dead body will they raise your taxes” George Bush just recently made this statement and Ray wanted to know just exactly what he meant. If Bush is forced to break his promise, as his father did, will he actually die? Ray requested clarification from the Taliaferro Think Tank. Other topics for discussion: A right-wing conservative radio talk show host is trying to black list Danny Glover because of his stance against the death penalty.
Jerry Falwell is spitting mad because the Democrats are comparing the fundamentalist Christians to the Taliban. Can you see a difference?
2:00 – 3:00 a.m.
Ray talked about the present government pursuing economic interests such as an oil pipeline in Afghanistan. Bush has just recently appointed Zalmay Khalizad as the Special Ambassador who has been intimately involved in the oil industry, most recently with Unocal.
3:00 – 4:00 a.m.
The economy and upcoming plans of the Bush administration was discussed.
4:00 – 5:00 a.m.
Have you suffered from the recent economic downturn that the country is experiencing? Many callers shared their personal situations with unemployment.

Tuesday January 8, 2002 1:00 a.m. – 5:00 a.m.
1:00 – 2:00 a.m.
Ray began the show by talking about the caller from yesterday’s show who wondered why there was so much unemployment. “Why can’t those people just get off their asses and get a job?”, the caller asked. Many listeners vehemently replied to the gentleman from Arizona. Ray wondered why so many people can simply brush off the economic problems we are having in this country. Industries are feeling the pinch from the high tech to restaurants and hotels. What do you think this country ought to be? What are the bedrock fundamental elements of America? What is it that you think America stands for? Ray offered some of his theories. Education is key. Everyone in America ought to have access to the best education in the world as well as fair and affordable housing.
2:00 – 3:00 a.m.
What basic value has changed here in the United States? What are the basic tenets of this country? The one that is the hardest to achieve, the one that will never be fulfilled is equality under the law, a society where everybody is treated on an equal basis.
3:00 – 4:00 a.m.
The conversation segued into the homelessness problem. The San Francisco Board of Supervisors have recently been heavily featured in the news because of Gavin Newson’s temporary solution. However, homelessness cannot be solved by one city, it is a national problem.
4:00 – 5:00 a.m.
More comments and suggestions on the homelessness problem.

Wednesday January 9, 2002 1:00 a.m. – 5:00 a.m.
1:00 – 2:00 a.m.
Ray talked about an explosive new book by two French intelligence analysts claims that at the behest of U.S. oil companies, the Bush administration initially blocked FBI investigations into terrorism, while it bargained with the Taliban for the delivery of Osama bin Laden in exchange for political recognition and economic aid. The book "Bin Laden, la verite interdite" ("Bin Laden, the forbidden truth"), is written by two French authors, Jean-Charles Brisard and Guillaume Dasquie. Here are two articles written about the subject:
http://tiger.berkeley.edu/sohrab/politics/taliban+us.html
http://www.cnn.com/TRANSCRIPTS/0201/08/ltm.05.html
2:00 – 3:00 a.m.
According to the book, at one moment during the negotiations, the U.S. representatives told the Taliban, ‘either you accept our offer of a carpet of gold, or we bury you under a carpet of bombs’.
3:00 – 4:00 a.m.
In another part of the book, the authors claim the chief motivation behind U.S. attempts to make peace with the Taliban can be summed up in one word: OIL. The former Soviet republics of Central Asia have vast oil and gas reserves. But Russia has refused to allow the U.S. to extract it through Russian pipelines and Iran is considered a dangerous route. That left Afghanistan.
4:00 – 5:00 a.m.
Ray and the callers continued to comment on this amazing story.

Thursday January 10, 2002 1:00 a.m. – 5:00 a.m.
1:00 – 2:00 a.m.
Ray gave a recap of the explosive story of the two French author’s book, Bin Laden: The Forbidden Truth.
2:00 – 3:00 a.m.
In addition to continuing the discussion on the pipeline connection, Ray also talked about the turn of events in the nuclear arms race. Yesterday Bush announced that instead of getting rid of 4000 nuclear weapons, as initially agreed upon with Putin, he would simply take the 4000 warheads and put them in storage in the warehouse.
3:00 – 4:00 a.m.
Continued conversation on reducing our nuclear stockpile and the Enron story. One of the six meetings included a 30-minute session between the vice president and Enron Chief Executive Kenneth Lay that had been previously disclosed. In addition, Enron officials met in large and small group meetings with the task-force staff. Two of the meetings occurred after the staff completed writing its report, including one as late as Oct. 10 -- days before Enron began its rapid slide into bankruptcy court.
4:00 – 5:00 a.m.
More on the pipeline connection, Enron and the Bush administration.

Friday January 11, 2002 1:00 a.m. – 5:00 a.m.
1:00 – 2:00 a.m.
The Enron investigation dominated the airwaves, including Ken Lay and John Ashcroft, who has had to recuse himself.
2:00 – 3:00 a.m.
In addition to the Attorney General, the entire office in District Attorney’s office in Houston has had to recuse itself from the Enron investigation as well. And just this week, the White House disclosed that Enron executives, and the company chairman, had meetings and discussions with cabinet members, White House officials and Vice President Dick Cheney before and during the corporation's implosion. On top of everything else, the accounting firm that audited Enron's books, Arthur Andersen LLP, disclosed today that a "significant but undetermined" number of documents related to the company had been destroyed.
3:00 – 4:00 a.m.
The Enron criminal investigation continued as Ray and the callers talked about the Texas corporation led by Mr. Bush's most generous campaign contributor, Ken Lay.
4:00 – 5:00 a.m.
What did they know and when did they know it? Ray repeated his mantra as the callers challenged him.
