Universal Military Training and Services Act of 2001
New bill in committee as of December 20th, 2001 requiring the induction into the armed forces for men (voluntary for women) between the ages of 18-22.
The Universal Military Training and Services Act of 2001 (H. R. 3598) has recently been introduced into the House Armed Services Committee by Nick Smith of Michigan and Curt Weldon of Pennsylvania--both Republicans--on 12-20-01.
The act would require "the induction into the Armed Forces of young men registered under the Military Selective Service Act, and to authorize young women to volunteer, to recieve basic military training and education for a period of up to one year."
Affected group is between 18-22 . This is just now starting to recieve independent media attention, no major news sources have carried this to my knowledge. This, on the heels of President Bush today naming Iraq, Iran and North Korea an "axis of evil." Preperations seem under way for training youth for a long war ahead.
If our President is so public about war, then why is this bill being kept so quiet?

§I agree
This bill is suspicious to say the least. Why don't the conservative politicians on both parties just be up front and declare their support for the reestablishment of the draft. But then again, i'm sure they have their careers to think about too. Best for them and the corporate media to keep this one under wraps........................
