The Shortwave Report 1/18/02 ¡LISTEN GLOBALLY!

by Dan Roberts (outfarpress [at] saber.net)
A 30 minute review of news and opinions recorded from a shortwave radio. 2 files- broadcast-13.4MB & quick/streaming-3.4MB. With times and freqs for listening at home. Free to rebroadcast upon notification. Germany, Netherlands, Russia, China, Cuba.
Dear Radio Friend,
The latest Shortwave Report (January 18) is up at the website
http://www.outfarpress.com/outfarpress/shortwave.shtml in both broadcast quality (13.3MB) and quickdownload or streaming form (3.4MB) (29:18) It's free to rebroadcast, please notify me if you're airing it and haven't notified me in the last month, please mention the website if you only air a portion. If you just want to listen and have a slow connection, try the streaming version- lower sound quality but good enough and way easier if you don't have a high-speed internet connection. If streaming is a problem because of your slow connection, download the smaller file- it takes 20 minutes or less, and will play swell in any mp3 player application (Real Player, Winamp, Quicktime, iTunes, etc) you have on your computer.
This week's show features stories from Radio Deutsche Welle, Radio Netherlands, the Voice of Russia, China Radio International, and Radio Havana Cuba.
From Germany- Human Rights Groups are alarmed at the prisoners being taken by the US to Guantanamo, and not calling them Prisoners of War.
From Netherlands- Mary Robinson says prisoners of the US are POWs and must be treated according to the Geneva Convention; Human Rights Watch says the US led War on Terrorism has led many governments to crush internal dissent; drug smugglers into Netherlands airports are let go if the quantity is less than a kilogram.
From Russia- another view of the report from Human Rights Watch, pointing out that the report states that the US leads the list of the worst offenders.
From China- the Foreign Minister says that the US promotion of "the China Threat" is groundless and unfruitful; a brief on the war between Israel and Palestine from Wed night.
From Cuba- a viewpoint on the return to negotiations in Columbia between Government and rebel forces.
All that plus times and frequencies for listening at home. I hope you'll listen and air this if you're connected with a radio station.
I am still wondering how to get financially compensated for the 25 hours I put into this program weekly- any ideas are appreciated. Any stations rebroadcasting this (or listeners)
are welcome to donate for production costs. You can do so through the website. No Guilt!
