Amy Goodman as Rock Star in Hollywood

by @non
Amy Goodman seen riding in Limo to Pacifica Campaign Fundraiser
Yes, it's true. Amy Goodman, the defacto figurehead who has a sort of cult of personality built around her, was rocking the limo outside at a fundraiser for Pacifica Campaign in Los Angeles this past Saturday, Dec. 2, 2001.

It's a really disturbing image of the saintly Goodman getting into a black stretch limo after talking sincerely about the need for money to fight the Pacifica National Board, and her desire to fight against the corporate tyranny of the "CMN", or the Cable Military Network, while shortly thereafter she gets into a car with the most disgusting symbolism of american hegemony and capital. Amy, what the hell were you thinking?

It is very disturbing indeed to begin to contemplate what motivates the Pacifica Campaign, and what it will mean when they "retake" Pacifica. Are they going to institute the same disgusting heierachical relationships that now exist at Pacifica, or are they going to build "democracy now" and institute some of the principles on which the IMC is founded? Well, money and power corrupts, and they corrupt absolutely. Sorry, but that is the sad truth.

I realize she probably just needed a ride somewhere, but i trust my gut, and my gut tells me that Amy should know better. and Amy, you do know better, and you know that you are not any more important than anyone else in this movement for global justice. You should be more careful about your fame and which direction you choose to take yourself in. My instincts tell me that the more you develop a cult-like personality *and feed it,* the less i will trust you.

I'm not a cult fan or anything. But I notice that we are are all perfectionists and that is what always keeps the left movement from gaining any strength.
The PETA folks fight with the Forest defender types for wearing leather boots; the Christains and the hippis who both fight for better education and the right to home schooling refuse to unite.
I bet if you did any investigative reporting you would have discovered that the limo was donated. I'm not sure, I mea, I am not a reporter or anything. But you are; right?
Either way, let's save our criticism for the opposition and at least PRETEND to have a united front. It won't hurt

one limo ride does not a sell-out make.

in LA you can't get anywhere without a vehicle.
when a limo is shared, it can actually be cheaper than a taxi. you don't present any details -- who paid for the limo? was there a hot tub in the back? was the ultimate cultrix of personality julia butterfly hill anywhere within a 10 mile radius?

i think it's more than likely that the poster of this 'news' article is in the frances-berry, wbai-deny-the-timorese-massacres camp, pointing fingers and making shit up like they always do.

one time i saw a drunk IMC reporter stumble out of a bar, stumble into someone, and puke all over the front of a limo. is that the same thing?

i posted this. i am not from the 'other' faction,
but someone that honestly sees this from an cultural
*and* (anti-authoritarian) political perspective...
i don't trust the cult-of-personality scenario wherever
it may be, and i have seen enough people justify
wealth and privelege in my life to the point that
those justifications ring very hollow when, on the one
hand they speak about 'democracy,' criticize the
wealthy, and speak on the 'people's' behalf, and on
the other, they reap the benefits that privilege and
fame provide.

My point is, is that when confronted with the priveleges of wealth, the riches, and the fame, even the most dedicated to their cause will be tempted by lure of gold. And yes, I would have rejected a ride in that symbol of american power and felt very uncomfortable to step one foot near the door. The thought of the hypocrisy of the whole incident is disgusting. I must add that the old guard authoritarian lefties bug the hell out of me too...

Sure, Amy Goodman is a breath of fresh air compared to Dan Rather, but that isn't saying much. Personally, I don't find her shows particularly thought-provoking most of the time. To me it seems like left-liberal conventional wisdom. She has no apparent sense of humor and her questions often are prefunctory.
Aside from that she's god.

Alas, it would be much better to some that Amy Goodman walk from point A to point B on her bloodied hands and knees while her tattered clothing falls off behind her!

Rock on in your limo, Amy! WOO WOO RAISE THE ROOF!

you should do like someone else said and follow up on this. my gut says it was probably donated, if not her feet should be held to the fire. it iis in poor taste either way. but i still beleive that people are innocent until proven guilty. see if she will corespond with you directly i think she will get the point

Could someone please tell me who the heck this woman Amy Goodman is? Pardon my ignorance, but I've never heard of her.
