Any point in going to the next CSAW conference in Jan?
Im trying to decide if there is a point going
yeah that coordinating group was made up that the ISO people proposed, and they said only one person from each school can go up to this meeting. I say fuck that, and fuck having delegates. If this is going to be a true coaliton they are going to have to deal with all of us or none of us.
If my school picks a delegate I don't care, my anarchist group and I most likely will still make it up there to make sure those vanguard power driven people don't fuck things up like they did in the last conference

I'm planning to make sure that someone from my school and all teh schools in my area attend the coming conference. It is coming up on January 12 and is supposed to held at UCB again, they probably won't release the info so folks won't start organizing around it.
We should make the best effort to attend this conference and become campus delegates and out-vote ISO-backed proposals. We should advocate for a change in direction of the coalition, we should advocate for a coalition that will seriously dedicate itself to including Middle Eastern students into the decision making. We need to take in the larger picture and add to the princlibles of unity a statement that says we connect the war to the US governments political and economic domination of the Middle East.
TO include all voices and not let the coalition be the prop of any group who believes they should be the leader, we should propose several changes: Everyone announce all the groups that they are affiliated with so that this is out on the table, the coalition is a non-partisan coalition of all anti-war student and youth groups the West Coast/CA, call for another conference to re-evaluate the direction of the coalition that will happen at a campus other than UCB or SFSU and that all proposals should be submitted in writting before the conference (to allow comments and discusion) and distributed to all people attending the day before any voting.
Further, to ensure the diversity of the attendees, we should stipulate that a specific number of each campuses voting representatives must be women or people of color, which other student coalitions in NY have used. We could also stipulate that out of 5 or whatever reps, that different groups be given proportional representation, so that they won't all be from the ISO dominated anti-war coalition.
